🌟Student Superstars
Anna Ayupova - Spelling Bee Runner Up
Please join us in congratulating Anna Ayupova, 6th grade student from Benjamin Franklin Middle School, as our 2024 FCPS Division Spelling Bee runner-up.
The bee lasted an impressive 17 rounds!
💡 Loving our Learning
New Tech at Gereau - Gr. 8
New Tech Science students chose a substance to research and share with the class. They determined the pH of their substance and found its place on the pH scale, thus being able to tell whether their substance has H+ ions or OH+ ions.
Spanish I - Gr. 8
Spanish I created adjective bracelets. They had to choose an adjective that described them and had to complete it with attention to correct grammar. Then they could design their own bracelet.
Social Studies - Gr. 6
Boston Tea Party
Students participated in a STEM activity to go along with their study about the Boston Tea Party. Given a small supply of materials, students had to construct a crate that would house a tea bag. The crate is placed in water and the tea bag had to stay dry for 30 seconds. There was no building directions or model of the crate so many designs were developed.
🤝 BFMS Club Hub
Agriculture Club
The BFMS Ag Club visited Elite Ironworks and the students had a BLAST!
They learned about the different types of welding and all of the students (including Mrs. Hatch) got to try MIG welding. They welded on a metal BFMS Ag Club sign which they could take home and keep. Thank you so much for having us and allowing our students to work in your shop!
🚓 School Resource Officer Appreciation Week
Officer Suzanne Moses and Officer Charles "CJ" Police
School Resource Officer Appreciation Day not only honors those who serve our school communities as certified law enforcement officers but also recognizes their contribution as role models and law-related educators. Our School Resource Officers labor tirelessly to enhance the climate and culture of our schools, while mentoring our youth.
Please join us in recognizing and thanking our School Resource Officers everyday!
💕 Kindness Week
FEBRUARY SPIRIT WEEK - Kindness Week
Schools can promote and foster kindness all school year. However, each year here in Virginia we have celebrated kindness week during the second week in February.
The purpose of Kindness Week is to recognize that simple day-to-day acts of kindness enable our schools, communities, and state to be a kinder, safer, healthier and more inclusive place to live, work, learn and play.

🔅 Summer Camps for Students
New College Institute K-12 Programs
NCI takes an active role in providing educational opportunities for our K12 and community college partners that includes experiential learning and internships with employers throughout Martinsville-Henry County. NCI also hosts and participates in events throughout the year to empower students to make informed decisions as they apply and pay for college. Through these events, students can learn about the college application process, choosing the right educational institution and path, and financial aid resources.
