Note from Gina
We had a great time learning during African American History Month. We learned a lot and will continue learning all year long. Next week is National School Social Workers Week. Thanks to our school social workers, Angie Deckert and Michelle Siroko. Don't forget, Monday is a virtual learning day.
Enjoy your weekend!

K-8 Summer School Information
Parkway focused on academics this summer
We are doubling our efforts this summer in reading and math to support students in grades 1-8. Teachers will personalize instruction based on student needs and focus on one grade level and the priority reading and math learning targets that are necessary for starting the next grade.
By dedicating our Parkway teachers and summer school programs to reading and math intervention this summer, we can ensure students who need additional support are prepared to start the next school year. This also allows us to double the number of students we can serve this summer in academic intervention courses.
Families have received an invitation if their child is identified as needing additional reading and math support based on academic performance this school year. If you did not receive an invitation, your child’s performance is on target, and/or they have not been identified as needing this additional support.
Camps and enrichment opportunities still available
Families who prefer enrichment opportunities and summer camps can enroll in Parkway-Rockwood Community Education for a fee. Registration for fee-based summer camps and enrichment courses opens on March 8 through Parkway-Rockwood Community Education.
Transition programs will be offered in August
Jumpstart to Kindergarten will be offered both in-person and virtually to rising kindergarteners and Welcome to Middle School will be offered both in-person and virtually to rising 6th graders in August. The programs will be offered from August 2-6, 2021 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Registration for these programs will open on May 1.
VIRTUAL CAMPUS NOTES
Digital Citizenship Refresher
Knowing how to follow the norms of an online community is important because it's part of being a good digital citizen. A digital citizen is someone who uses technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate. That means you get the rewards of being online -- like seeing cool videos and playing fun games -- without the negatives like people being mean or disrespectful to the community. (Commonsense.org)
Your digital footprint is all the stuff you leave behind as you use the Internet. Comments on social media, Skype calls, app use and email records- it's part of your online history and can potentially be seen by other people, or tracked in a database. VIDEO
Media balance is when you reflect on the different feelings and emotions that arise when you engage in activities that involve digital media (streaming TV shows, playing online games, and so on). VIDEO
Cyberbullying is the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature. VIDEO
The definition of online privacy is the level of privacy protection an individual has while connected to the Internet. VIDEO
Digital communication, collaboration and participation looks at the way in which you interact with others. It focuses on how you work with people, join in and connect through digital means. VIDEO
News and media is information that is posted on the internet or other media sources. You will demonstrate the ability to identify, evaluate, and use information effectively, find credible and trustworthy sources, and give proper credit. VIDEO
Digital literacy means having the skills you need to live, learn, and work in a society where communication and access to information is increasingly through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices. VIDEO
