Discipline Based Service to the Broader Community
Testing the Waters
The integration of scholarship and service is evident in the opportunities taken to impact the larger audience within the discipline of research in which I find myself. Although I have been teaching for several decades, my scholarship in higher education is relatively new. As a recent graduate, I am finding it challenging to discern appropriate and sustainable paths to take among a plethora of interesting connections, but have selected a handful at this time that I believe will make a positive impact both personally and professionally.
ISTE Teacher Education Network
The opportunity to collaborate with professionals in teacher education has been one of the greatest resources for my personal professional development and integration of research with my teaching. This network allows me to serve the community through monthly planning meetings, newsletters, Twitter chats, daily news feeds and major event planning such as ISTE's yearly conference. I have volunteered as Team Captain for Proposal Reviews the past three years and contributed expert feedback for the selection committee.
European Scientific Journal Editorial Office
This journal includes quality interdisciplinary contributions from researchers all over the world. The journal is open access and provides scholarly work monthly. European Scientific Institute (ESI) promotes both the journal as well as conferences all across the globe. I have had the privilege of co-presenting at two of these conferences and have gained valuable perspectives from researchers working in diverse geographical areas.
Google Certified Educator
Over the summer I spent time training for this certification to expand my technological pedagogical content knowledge regarding the use of Google and Google apps in the classroom. Many K-12 districts now utilize Google Classroom and Google apps for Education. The knowledge and experience gained has already been shared with colleagues, other professionals (via Google communities) and with my own students, preparing and equipping them for their own classrooms.
Delphi Participant for Teacher Ed Technology Competencies
I was selected from a pool of international applicants for my expertise in educational technology and because my profile met a need in terms of overall level of diversity in expertise needed for the group. The Delphi process afforded five rounds of blind participation in the development of competencies for teacher educators. The process required deep reflection on the process and products of technology integration and effective skill development for preservice teachers from the perspective of the faculty. http://teacheredtechcompetencies.weebly.com/
Editorial Review Board: Journal of Online Learning Research
The Journal of Online Learning Research (JOLR) is an international journal that focuses on pedagogical approaches and policy in K-12 learning environments, including online and blended learning. It is a great privilege to participate by offering expertise in online and blended learning theory and practice. I find this most satisfying as reading and analyzing current empirical research provides content knowledge that can be shared with my students.
Innovative Learning Technologies Network
As the co-chair of professional development, it is a privilege to be able to offer a variety of opportunities for professionals in the field to share knowledge by connecting through webinars, Twitter chats, and other online forums. This network includes educators, researchers, administrators and education reform leaders seeking to gain innovative practice with learning technology in an international forum.
