Reading
A few of the books we read together this week were Stuck by Oliver Jeffers, Peanut Butter & Cupcake by Terry Border, and Red by Michael Hall. We focused this week on taking a close look at what the author's job is and why they write the stories. Red has a wonderful message that teaches people to be who they are and not try to be something they are not, no matter how many people tell you otherwise. Peanut Butter & Cupcake was a story about finding a friend. Stuck was a silly story about everything that got stuck in the tree as the little boy was trying to get his kite unstuck. Authors write stories for many different reasons.
Math
We continued to identify the different types of 3D shapes this week. We enjoyed find these shapes in the real world and discussing the difference between a flat and curved surface. We are looking forward to building 3D shapes by using 2D shapes next week!
Science/Writing
We have been so excited about the seeds we planted. We used a clear CD case as our container so we can see all the parts of the plant as it grows. We have a little bit of spouting so far, and we are eager to see what they look like after the weekend. Students have been writing down their observations throughout the week. Sometimes we have noted that nothing changed from the day before, while other times we are writing that there is something poking out or that the seed is breaking! We are excited to record more observations in our own words. We will gradually add some more plant/science vocabulary to our observations!
