CCA Receives DNR Grant
This year, CCA received a DNR Grant to enable us to purchase pour in place surface material for the playground. This will be used under the swings and teeter-totter. The material used is part of a recycling program because it uses recycled tires. Recycling these tires is beneficial to the environment because they are not biodegradable.
The Quad-Lakes District Planner, Theresa Heckenlively, presented information about recycling to our 3rd-12th graders on Thursday, April 20th. She taught students the 5 R’s of recycling: 1. Refuse to use items that are not recyclable. 2. Reduce the amount of what we put in our landfills. 3. Reuse by lengthening the amount of time we have for a product. 4. Repurpose by adapting the use of an object for something new. 5. Recycling is the recovery and reprocessing of waste materials for use in new products. The bulk of the presentation that Mrs. Heckenlively shared was that we can reuse and repurpose items to create neat crafts, decorative items, yard ornaments, etc. Teresa brought items to share with students made from reusable items like windows, shovels, yarn, and horseshoes that were made by area craftsmen and sold at Red Rooster in Lowry City. --Kennedy Vaughn
