Family Doesn't Forget
On Friday, we once again got to hold our annual Cordwood curling bonspiel. This is an event that brings together our grade 4-8 students for an entire day of cordwood curling. As I watched the day unfold, I was struck by the sense of family that naturally arises. The students are placed on teams, often with other students they may not know and that they may not have a daily relationship. Very quickly the teams gel into a mini family. The skips look after the younger students, getting them to and from games. The students help and encourage each other as they learn the game (if anyone can truly ever learn cordwood) and most importantly they interact. They laugh and joke and argue and encourage. The teachers look after some organizational details and help to get things started, but then it is the students who take over and make an event that everyone loves. No amount of planning can create the atmosphere of pure joy and comradery that exists on the ice.
The cohorting of students over the last couple of years, although needed for safety, made it impossible for these events and the resulting atmosphere to exist; and that is no small loss. That being said, I am so happy to report that although these events and opportunities may not have occurred the students quickly remembered, embraced and exuded a sense of school community and togetherness. It was an amazing day that served to recharge my batteries (which I can admit COVID had drained). It gave me a sense of hope and a great, great sense of anticipation of what is yet to come. I have said from the beginning that we would get through this together and now I realize that getting through it was being able to be together. It creates a cosmic circle of sorts. Togetherness allowed us to get through, even when we couldn't be together and in getting through it, togetherness is once again our reward.
Huge, huge thanks to the rink board, the parent volunteers and Chantel Norum for helping to make this happen.

Jr. NBA Basketball was a huge success. PPCS had 4 teams compete. Two teams of grade 3/4 boys competed on Saturday at the Kerry Vickar Center and the 3/4 Girls and 5/6 mixed teams on Sunday at MUCC. All of the athletes did amazing and showed tremendous growth throughout the season and the tournament. Everyone had a blast and represented our school and community so well.
