SPEAK

DESCRIPTOIN
Melinda begins high school with no friends, an outcast, because at the end-of-summer party she called the cops, so now no one will talk to her, or even listen to her. The farther into the year it gets the more the kids hate her, so she becomes increasingly isolated, and just stops talking altogether. The only thing in Melinda's life that provides comfort is art class. Her art project for the year was a tree. She had to find different ways to create and make the tree come alive. The first tree that she created her teacher was impressed, but the work had to describe Melinda in one word, the word the teacher said was "pain." It is through the art project that she is finally able to face what really happened that night, and why she called the cops.
