The Weekly Update #4
February 27th, 2024
Dear Awesome Falcon Students and Families:
As you know this past Friday 10 minutes into our combined lunch with 7th and 8th grader’s we noticed that students began grouping together in large groups and moving around in waves. Unfortunately, we were unable to get our students to cooperate and settle down, resulting in a sit-down lunch.
I want to thank 99.99% of our students who cooperated and sat down quickly. You know who you are and you contribute to the success of our school in keeping our campus safe. Thank you for being the BEST FALCON students! Students, I also want a call to action to the 99.999% of you who always do the right things: You DO NOT PARTICIPATE with the .01% of those students, even when it looks, or sounds intriguing, be strong and do not participate. I appreciate and love that MOST of you do the right things.
The Administration, your Teachers and Staff of Hilltop Middle school are trying our BEST to continue working with the .01% to ensure you are able to enjoy your lunch break. We have approximately 7 more weeks of school, and I want each of you to have an un-interrupted lunch break and enjoy time with your friends, so let's all do our part.
Falcon Families, please make sure to take the time to review with your student(s) appropriate behaviors and school rules and policies. We want each student to continue being safe and successful at Hilltop Middle School.
In addition, as we get closer to the last progress report, on Friday, April 19th please have a dialogue with your student and ask them to show you their Jupiter Grades and check their attendance on Infinite Campus. We have Falcon Scholars to assist our students in their academics Monday-Thursday in the cafeteria from 3:20 pm to 5:20 pm. Students who attend our Falcon Scholars are also able to with 4 hours of tutoring may clear 6 tardies. We also have Falcon Saturday Academy available in the cafeteria from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

We want to bring to your attention an exciting astronomical event happening tomorrow: an eclipse! While eclipses are fascinating to witness, it’s important to take precautions to ensure everyone’s safety during the event.
Tomorrow on April 8th, from 10:03 am through 11:11 am there will be a solar eclipse occurring in our area. While this presents a unique learning opportunity, it’s crucial to remind everyone of the potential dangers associated with viewing the eclipse directly without proper eye protection.
Here is a short video on the Solar Eclipse: Click here to view.
To ensure the safety of all students and staff, please keep the following precautions in mind:
· Do not look directly at the sun: Looking directly at the sun during an eclipse can cause serious eye damage or even permanent blindness. This includes using binoculars, telescopes, or cameras without proper solar filters.
· Use approved solar viewing glasses: If you plan to observe the eclipse, make sure you have certified solar viewing glasses. These glasses should meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard. Regular sunglasses are not sufficient for protecting your eyes during an eclipse.
· It will be optional for your teachers during period 1 to show this video on how to make a pinhole projector and how to view the eclipse safely. We have put index cards in their mailboxes in the lounge, or you have the option of making one at home.
How to make a pinhole projector:
