JMS Library Update
The Jackson Middle School library has had a very busy fall. The new remodel has brightened the space, creating a warm, welcoming environment. Students gather in the mornings, hanging out with friends or exploring puzzles or creation opportunities in the MakerSpace. Classes visit to get books, to have space to spread out for class activities, and to watch science demonstrations.
Over 10,000 physical books were checked out during Trimester 1. We are on pace for 13,000 for Trimester 2!

JMS Teacher one of nine district educators named as a candidate for Minnesota Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to JMS Teacher, Lisa Neaderhiser, one of nine district educators named for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Lisa is one of many great teachers here at Jackson Middle School. Click this link to read more about the award.
Grade 6 Science
All grade 6 students got to experience a program called Orbit Earth Expo during their science class. Students experienced the cycles, systems and relationships between the earth, moon and sun using a huge, inflatable Earth model and scale-sized moon. Students manipulated the models to experience eclipses, seasonal/lunar cycles, creation of winds, day/night cycles, rotation vs revolution, physical characteristics of the earth, moon and sun, gravity, seasons and more!
Seeking Paraeducator
Are you, or a family member, looking for a part-time job? Jackson’s AVID program is in need of high school graduates that would like to work two days a week with small groups of 7th and 8th grade students. The paraeducator job is every Monday and Wednesday from 12:30 to 3:30. Paraeducators receive training and work with AVID teachers and other paras. The goal is to provide consistent support to students as they use questioning to help each other through classwork in all academic areas. These small groups are student directed and promote connections and teamwork through questioning. Understanding of teaching various subjects is not required, but please check the Anoka-Hennepin postings for the specifics (AVID Paraeducators - Supplemental Programs). There is also a 3-day a week position that is shared with Coon Rapids Middle if interested in more hours and experiences.
This is a thriving program that continues for students to Champlin Park and we would love to have you as part of the support team for our diverse group of 7th and 8th grade AVID students. Please contact Dawn Kugler-Park (dawn.kuglerpark@ahschools.us) with questions or the district office to apply for the position.
JMS Yearbook
In order to guarantee a yearbook, you must purchase it by January 31. You will no longer be able to pre-order your yearbook after January, 31.
There will be a VERY limited number available to purchase in the spring when they are delivered. We sold out quickly last year. Once they're gone, they're gone!
If you have questions or want to order, go to the JMS homepage.
Volunteers
We are currently looking for numerous volunteers for our 6th grade Influence Day on February 10. The students are either going to the History Center or Mill City based on their first hour teacher. If you are able to give a few hours of your time, we would love to have you on our 6th grade Influence Day
If you haven't already done so this school year you will need to fill out the volunteer paperwork here JMS Volunteer Application & Background Check Release Form.
