Math, Science, and Social Studies
This is the week where we begin mixing all the fact families together for our last accuracy check. Students will need to practice mixing these facts together at home. There are many free apps that can be downloaded on devices that will make this practice more fun. Multiplication.com is a class favorite if you have internet access. Students also have all the fact cards that we have made this year to use as well. We will practice for several weeks before we have our next accuracy check.
Science-We will complete our "Wiggling Worms" unit this week by writing a story "The Day in the Life of an Earthworm." This has been a really fun unit! We will begin "Harnessing the Wind" later in the week.
Reading, Writing, and Word Study
Reading--We will wrap up our reading of Sacajawea, Guide to Lewis and Clark this week. On Thursday we will have an assessment where students will choose a word to describe each of the main characters and then use their books to back up their statement with text evidence. On Friday, we will be watching the National Geographic Lewis and Clark video to get another perspective on this important time in our nation's history.
Reminder--all students are expected to have a "grade appropriate" book to read in class every day. (This means a chapter book or a longer non-fiction selection--not Where's Waldo or a joke book). We do classroom library check in and out each Tuesday and Friday, and each class has a weekly trip to the school library.
Writing--We will be focusing on making revisions to our writing from last week. We will also be using noredink to work on our grammar skills.
