A Peek at Our Week
Thinking Like Environmental Engineers:
From our discoveries about different types of alternative energy last week, the ASPIRE 5 Scholars have teamed up to design ways to use alternative sources of energy to Glenhope. This week they have finished their models and are working on presentations that include a cost analysis and a discussion of community concerns, solutions, and counterpoint. We welcome Kent Hall, Energy Specialist for GCISD on Monday. How wonderful to present to an authentic audience. Check out the pictures below!
Organization and Time Management:
Friday was an interesting day. The Scholars met with Mr. Boykin and Mrs. Fullhart right after math and discussed assignments for each subject - some that needed finishing up and others that were new that day. So what made it interesting? It was a study in time management and organization in that they had from 9:15-2:15 to organize their day and turn in work. Each Scholar scheduled a one-on-one conference with their teacher to discuss goals and Beginning of the Year writing and then decided how to plan the rest of their day to get their assignments as well as other choice activities done.
Dates to Remember:
Sept. 30 - ASPIRE T-shirt orders due today
October 2 - Spirit Day and Pep Rally - wear your favorite Glenhope shirt, or blue and green, to show your school spirit. Both ASPIRE 5 classes had 100% participation last month - let's have a repeat! Also remember to turn in your Box Tops!

October 7 - Progress reports go home
October 7-8 - Early dismissal at 11:45. Student led conferences will be scheduled for the afternoons.
October 9 - Gatorville Session 1 starts
October 12 - Student Holiday
Please help your child update their iPad to iOS-9 this weekend!
Still Looking for Volunteers for 5th Grade Activities
5th grade is off to such a great start! The room parents are getting everything in place for a fun 5th-grade year and have already recruited many volunteers to head-up specific events/tasks. Several committee positions are still open and in need of more parent volunteers to help with the graduation and celebration. See below on how to volunteer to help
http://www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0F4CABAF2FA3F58-fall is the sign-up for ALL 5th grade Fall Festival booths. Just FYI - we’re working as a grade-level team this year instead of listing individual class booths in an effort to try to fill all of the time-slots for all of the booths. (Some classes have more parent participation than others.)
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4cabaf2fa3f58-glenhope2 is the sign-up to help with 5th grade committees for parties, graduation, celebration, etc. We’re especially looking for people to oversee the legacy gift, entertainment (bounce house rentals), and food/beverage because we need to reserve these vendors and/or purchase these items sooner rather than later.
