A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
The weather continues to be unpredictable and we appreciate you keeping an eye on the forecast to ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the time they spend outside. Remember, that all students go outside for recess each day for roughly 30 minutes unless it is rainy or below 0. We want to make sure that time outside is enjoyable for them and being warm enough is a big part of that.
We continue to work on our CARES framework with students each day. Our teachers, counselors, and support staff consistently discuss the importance of showing cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control and offer students praise when we see examples of these behaviors. Every day, our school is filled with examples of kindness, leadership, selflessness, helpfulness, hard work, curiosity, and persistence. We are proud of our students and we know you are too! Thank you for helping them understand the importance of these skills and for providing opportunities for them to practice.
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

April is Autism Acceptance Month
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. The Autism experience is different for everyone. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is often referred to as a “spectrum condition” that affects people differently and to varying degrees.
While there is no known single cause for Autism, it is generally accepted that it is caused by differences in brain structure or genetic factors. Early diagnosis and intervention can greatly support a person with Autism with the resources needed to live fully.
Check out this resource from the Autism Society for more information.
Please Update Your Child's iPad To The Newest Operating System
Keeping your devices updated with the latest version of the operating system is best practice for security. Outdated devices pose vulnerabilities not only to one’s own devices, but to the networks and collective data to which that device has access.
To address security and bug fixes, please update your iPad to iPadOS 17.4 and Mac to macOS 14.4 as soon as possible. It is recommended that you update before or after school hours as it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to more than an hour to download and install. Please plan to do this update as soon as you can when you have a window of time to complete it. [iPadOS: Settings > General > Software Update] • [macOS: System Preferences or System Settings (depending upon version) > General > Software Updates]
Please make sure you have enough storage space and have your device charged to at least 20% or plugged into power for the update.

Students In Grades 3-5 Will Soon Participate in MCA Assessments
The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards are the statewide expectations for student learning in public schools around the state. MCA exams are completed by students each year so schools can receive feedback on our practices and whether or not they are leading to success in meeting these standards and benchmarks. These assessments provide us with data that we can use to strengthen our instruction as we step forward toward continuous improvement. The results also provide us with a snapshot of individual student learning success. Assessments are an important part of learning, because they help us determine whether or not our ambitious goals are being met.
In short, these assessments let us know if we are on the right track so we take them seriously. We want on students to do the same so the feedback we get is as accurate as possible. So much learning has taken place this school year and we are confident that our students will perform well on their MCAs if they give it their best effort. We consistently challenge our learners to try their hardest in all they do, and we know you do the same at home.
