Tison Library Creation Station
This coming Monday (March 6th) the library will host the first ever Tison Library Creation Station -- an event where students will have the opportunity to use tools like snap circuits, K-Nex, Cubelets, Legos, Makey Makey, craft supplies, etc. to create, explore, build, and problem-solve.
Intended as an incentive program, the core teachers (i.e. Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA) were each given six passes this past week -- three lunch passes and three period passes -- in which to hand out to deserving students to attend the Creation Station on Monday. Period passes are intended for students who are completely caught up on classwork and deserve some time in the Creation Station during class. Lunch passes provide a student the opportunity to bring a friend and eat lunch in the library while exploring the Creation Station.
The library will host four more Creation Station events in the coming months:
- Monday, April 3
- Monday, April 10
- Monday, April 24
- Monday, May 1
If you have any toys such as legos, K'nex or any that have a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) focus that you would consider donating to the Creation Station, please contact Leah Greer at 817-598-2960, ext. 4101 or email at lgreer@weatherfordisd.com. *Arts and crafts supplies also welcome!*
The Time to BUY a Yearbook is NOW
Pre-ordering a yearbook is the best method to guarantee your student will receive one this year, since the yearbook staff uses pre-order sales to determine how many to have printed. The yearbook staff will have a small number printed for those who choose to purchase in May, but quantities will be limited and the cost of the yearbook will be at its most expensive - $50.
To order your student a yearbook now, you can go to www.balfour.com and choose "Tison Middle School". If you would rather pay by cash or check, you can pick up an application at the Tison front office or just email the yearbook sponsor, Leslie Fenton (lfenton@weatherfordisd.com), for instructions.
Library Exploring the Use of Digital Magazines for 2017-2018
The pros for going to digital-based magazines:
- The service offers unlimited access to a majority of its magazines. So every Tison student and staff member could be reading the same magazine at the same time.
- Magazines can be read online as well as downloaded for offline reading.
- Works across multiple formats: phones, tablets, computers, chromebooks, etc.
- As with e-books, e-magazines can never get damaged or lost.
If you'd like to log in to the free trial, go to http://trial.ebscohost.com and use the following log-in information:
username: ns079770
password: trial
FYI: This trial provides access to ALL magazines on Flipster, some which you may not consider appropriate for your student. As a parent, you might want to preview Flipster first and take a look at the magazine selection before letting your student on it. If we decide to use this service, Tison students won't have access to all the magazines, only those the library buys a subscription for.
Please use this Google form to provide input on Flipster: https://goo.gl/QtE0tb
Kajeets -- Mobile Hotspot Devices Available for Checkout
Tison currently has 4 Kajeets for students to check out! Kajeets are mobile hotspots for students who might not have internet access outside of school to work on their school assignments.
They are easy to use, go through the WISD district filter, and each has 0.5 GB of data available on a daily basis. If you have a student that needs internet access to complete a project or any other educational related task, please email Leah Greer (lgreer@weatherfordisd.com) for more details.

Nate has been nominated by Ms. Patterson to be recognized in the Tison newsletter! Here are Ms. Patterson's comments:
"Excellent student -- hard worker even when things are hard to accomplish. Nate is always thinking. He is very soft spoken, but when he speaks, he speaks volumes. Every day he offers a reassuring hug and always tells me to have a good day! I really enjoy having this student!"
