PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
March 22, 2024
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families:
As we approach the much-anticipated Spring Break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of this time for our students and families. Spring Break offers a valuable opportunity for relaxation, rejuvenation, and reconnection with loved ones. It is a chance to step away from the daily routines and pressures of academic life and focus on personal well-being.
In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to become consumed by the demands of school, work, and extracurricular activities. However, it's essential to recognize the significance of taking a break and allowing ourselves to recharge both mentally and physically. Just as our electronic devices need time to recharge to function optimally, so do we.
During this Spring Break, I encourage each of our students to take the time to engage in activities that bring them joy and relaxation. Whether it's spending quality time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, reading a book for pleasure, or simply enjoying some much-needed rest, it's essential to prioritize self-care.
Research has shown that taking breaks can improve cognitive function, enhance creativity, and reduce stress levels. By taking the time to unwind and recharge during Spring Break, our students will return to school feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to tackle the remainder of the academic year with renewed focus and determination.
I also want to remind our families to support their children in making the most of this break. Encourage open communication about their plans and interests, and help them strike a balance between relaxation and productivity. Let's use this time to strengthen our family bonds and create lasting memories together.
As we prepare to embark on this Spring Break journey, let's embrace the opportunity to disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle and reconnect with ourselves and our loved ones. May this break be filled with moments of joy, relaxation, and rejuvenation for all.
Wishing you a wonderful and restful Spring Break,
Sursum ad Summum
John Chambers

The NUTS! Ohio State Championship Results
Two weeks ago Walnut Hills was well represented at both the FTC and FLL Ohio State Championships! The FTC team, The NUTS!, finished 2nd in the robot competition and were the 2nd Place Think Award winners. While this does not qualify us to advance to the World Championships, Walnut will still be represented! The FLL team made up of the following Walnut Hills students and coached by Walnut's own, Laurie Cotton, were the 2nd Place Champions Award winners! This qualified them to compete in the World Championship in Houston, Texas in April.
I am sure the following Walnut students would appreciate any assistance and recognition you could give them for all their hard work and dedication.
Team Members, all Freshman:
Grace Cotton
Edwin Tenney

Ohio State Admitted Students Event - 3/23/24
See below for a message from OSU College Rep, John Bates:
On behalf of The Ohio State University Office of Undergraduate Admissions, we are so excited to have a large number of your seniors admitted to Ohio State! To inform your students about how to join the Buckeye family, as well as meet other admitted students from Cincinnati, we are hosting an Admitted Student Reception at the Top Golf in West Chester on March 23rd – this Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
At this event, your seniors will have the opportunity to meet with me, get answers on next steps, and learn more about Ohio State such as academics and opportunities both in and out of the classroom. We will also have 2 free hours of gameplay at Top Golf to help students to socialize with one another and make some new friends in the Cincinnati area going to OSU – or maybe even to find a roommate!
Students admitted to Ohio State should have received an email from our office this week inviting them to the reception, as well as information about event details and a way to register. If you have any students who might benefit from attending this event, please refer them to the link below to register by this Friday, March 22nd.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
MORNING ARRIVAL ENTRANCE CHANGES
For the remainder of this school year, we are implementing the following changes to Morning Arrival entrances available to students.
During the 7:30-8:00 AM timeframe, students may use the following three entrances to enter the building.
1. The Senior High Gym/Lot D entrance
2. The Sulsar Steps entrance
3. The Blair Circle main lobby entrance
**The Arcade will no longer be an entrance available to students for morning arrival.**
For the Blair Entrance, there is appropriate signage indicating the two Blair doors that students can use for morning arrival. This will lead to the two metal detectors that are now present in the Blair lobby.
Our purpose with this change is in the interest of maintaining the safety and security of our building and to best serve our students and faculty. We appreciate your cooperation in communicating this change with your students.
Campus Dismissal Updates
Attention Walnut Families: Please see below for Dismissal Updates
3:00 PM Dismissal
Students have until 3:15 PM to report to their scheduled after school activity where a supervising adult is present. The library is open Monday-Thursday until 4:00 (or until 3:30 on Fridays), many teachers hold help nights, and there are many extracurricular club options. Otherwise, all students must exit the building promptly by 3:15 PM.
If a student needs to re-enter the building after 3:15 PM, it must be via the Blair Circle steps/Main Office entrance only.
Please be aware that as we enter the winter months, students who are waiting for their ride after 3:15 PM must do so outside of the school building. We do not have the ability to provide adequate supervision for these students after 3:15 PM.
If a student is found to be in the building, unsupervised after 3:15 PM, then there will be disciplinary consequences consistent with the CPS Code of Conduct that can include a Friday School or an Alternative Learning Center (ALC) assignment.
We appreciate your cooperation and support with dismissal procedures.
Please click on this LINK for a detailed list of campus safety updates.
If your student is eligible for a Metro pass, but does not have one, please fill out an Inquiry Form on the CPS website. Bus passes are available 1-2 weeks after ordering. Students can use the Metro to be taken to a public space, such as a branch of the Cincinnati library or a Cincinnati Recreation Commission location. Please check with those specific locations for information about their programming and hours. If your student is not eligible for a bus pass, please click here to see a list of purchasing sites.
Too Sick for School Policy
Please keep in mind, illness is an excused absence and students will be able to make up work they will miss. Please do not send ill students to school because they have a quiz or test.
