What is Marine Biology?
- Marine biology is the study of life in oceans or saltwater areas. Marine Biologist’s do research on various ocean life and conduct many experiments. By creating these experiments we can identify new species and help get a better understanding of how our ocean or saltwater areas work. In the marine field you spend time observing different factors that could affect any living things. These factors could be weather, or environmental changes. Marine biology can help us understand saltwater areas and the creatures in it.
How can you become a Marine Biologist?
- In order to have a job as a marine biologist you must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in marine biology or a related field such as; biochemistry, biology, botany, ecology, microbiology, or zoology. However, some work facilities require a higher degree. If you want to become a research and university teacher you need to have a PhD in Marine Biology. Lots of research positions require a Master’s degree.
- Not only do you have to have a good education, your personality has to be fitting for the job. First off you must have an interest and appreciation for different marine life. You must also be able to work hours of experiments and research using specialized tools and equipment. Most importantly, you have to be enthusiastic and eager to learn!
- To get a decent job in the field of marine biology you need at least 4 years of education. Based on the field you want to excel in, will be the deciding amount of college years you will need.
How much do Marine biologists get paid?
- When first starting out as a marine biologist the salary may range from $40,000-$50,000 a year. As years of experience increase, higher job opportunities will be available for higher pay.
