MUSTANG NEWS
September 2019
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It has already been an exciting (literally - downpours, heat advisories, bus route changes, and indoor recess only two weeks in), but mostly calm start to the year. If you are new to Duello, let me extend a warm welcome to your family on behalf of our entire staff. Our goal is to provide a rich and engaging educational experience for all students in a community that is built on relationships among students, staff, and families. YOU matter at Duello! Your involvement, input, questions, ideas, and partnership inspire and propel us to do the absolute best that we can for our students. We continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, maintaining a focus on our students’ success academically, socially, and emotionally, and we so value the support of our families in helping our students succeed in all areas.
This year our staff is focused on collaboration amongst themselves and with students, as well as promoting student leadership. The concept of student leadership was shared by Stephen Covey in his books: Leader In Me and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People/Teens. This work will help us remain focused on helping all of our students discover and develop the leadership within themselves. We look for opportunities for EVERY child to shine and build upon their strengths as individuals.
Our mission of “Learning, Leading, Growing … Together” is as relevant as ever. Thank you for entrusting us with your children as we work together to equip students to be leaders, thinkers, and problem-solvers this year!
Mustang Pride,
Mrs. Danielle Todd
Principal
Duello Elementary

Duello 5th Grade Outdoor Learning Experience 2019
This Year's fundraising goal is $20,000 or $25 per student!
The funds raised go directly to the Duello PTA, and are used for PTA Family Nights, teacher grants, and other school needs. This year, we are raising money for a gaga ball court for the kids to enjoy at recess, and chromebooks to enhance classroom curriculum. We also would like to purchase additional items to enhance the outdoor classroom and make it a great space for students to learn!
Donation packets will come home with students on Thursday September 12. All donation packets must be turned in no later than Thursday, September 26 to be eligible for the prizes.
The Duello Dash is held during school hours, similar to field day. The students will walk/run for 30 minutes, participate in fun games and activities for 30 minutes, and finish with a 30 minute celebration. It is a fun community event for the whole school that also promotes healthy habits. Students simply need to ask family and friends to sponsor their 30 minute walk/run time with a flat donation.
So get your kids walking shoes ready and be on the lookout for more information about this fun and exciting event!
Welcome our New SSI!
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to quickly introduce myself and give you a little bit of information about myself and my role here at Duello. I am married and a mom of two boys ages 9 and 14. I have taught for 12 years; grades 5th, 1st, and 3rd at Prairie View and Discovery Ridge.
My official job title is School Support Interventionist. Students will see me in and out of rooms and around the building. The easiest way to describe what I will be doing is helping students feel successful in the classroom. If you would like for me to meet with your child or observe him/her as an extra set of eyes please let me know.
I look forward to getting to know more of you and your children in time!

WSD Boundary Update and Online Survey
The committee will take the feedback from the online survey and three Community Forum meetings to make additional adjustments in October and November before a recommendation is made to the Board of Education in December. The boundaries will not be finalized until they are approved by the Board of Education.

To comment and leave suggestions online, please take THIS SURVEY.
We also encourage all stakeholders to plan to attend one of the three Community Forums scheduled during the month of September:
Tuesday, September 10 at Frontier Middle School from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 11 at the WSD Administrative Center from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Monday, September 23 at South Middle School from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
We fully recognize that with every attendance area that is adjusted, students and families are affected and District leadership is certainly mindful of that. District leaders also understand there are areas that have been moved more than once over the last decade given our growth and the addition of 11 new schools during that time. “We will work with the committee to be conscious of areas that have moved schools previously, while understanding there will be students across all grade levels affected by the new boundaries,” shared Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “The good news is all WSD schools are exceptional and have highly qualified staff who are committed to the success of all students.”
For more information, including the MGT presentations, the Demographic Study, Frequently Asked Questions, the Boundary Timeline, and the complete list of Boundary Committee members with contact information, visit the WSD website.
