The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- Nov. 4, 2022
Message from the Principal:
Our lost and found has been moved into the foyer for the time being for easier access to parents. Please take a moment to comb through it and gather any of your students' lost belongings. If you choose to do this at drop-off and pick-up time, please park in the lot and come in. Do not park in the car rider line and come in to browse.
As you know safety and security is a top priority for our school and district. To that end, a new 'buzzer' has been installed in our building. Visitors can no longer enter the reception area without being 'buzzed' in. Please be patient as we all get used to this new system.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! Please set up your e-wallet HERE.
I hope you all have a great weekend with your families.
Warmly,
Keegan Luedecke
SHE Principal

Next Week in Second Step:
This month, our schoolwide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements we’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Please tell your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.
Dinner Table Conversation Starters:
- What things are you not great at yet that you want some day to be good at?
- How much do you think you would have to practice to get good at those things?
- What is your biggest goal this year?
- When do you feel the most proud of who you are?
- What is your favorite thing about our relationship?
- What is one way our relationship could be better?

Veteran's Day Wall of Honor
Background: An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as "Armistice Day." Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, but in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. Source: United States Department of Veterans Affairs
In recognition of Veterans Day, Serene Hills Elementary will be creating a “Wall of Honor” to pay tribute to family members of Serene Hills students and staff that served in the military. In recognition of their service to our country, we are asking students to create a poster that will be showcased in the hallway of our building. Please print and fill out the template below and return to your teacher ASAP. If you don’t personally know a veteran and your child would like to participate, encourage him/ her to research a famous person and create a brick (i.e. Elvis Presley). This display will stay up through the month of November. Please don't forget to include your child's name, grade, and teacher on the back.
If you need your teacher to provide a printed copy, please email them and let them know.

District improves "Cavs Who Care" tip line
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As part of our district’s commitment to student safety and mental health, Lake Travis ISD is pleased to launch a much-improved "Cavs Who Care" anonymous reporting tip line, effective Monday, October 31.
Much like the previous tip line, the new software will allow students and parents to make anonymous reports regarding safety and wellness. However, one of the most notable improvements to the reporting tool is the ability for the tipster to engage in one-on-one communication with a live operator 24 hours a day, seven days a week while remaining completely anonymous, if he/she chooses to do so. Our tip line is student-focused as opposed to crime-focused, meaning it is a tool for alerting caring adults about students who need help. This is part of our continuous efforts to increase campus and student safety while providing students with a safe and completely anonymous resource to share concerns.
Concerns can continue to be reported in one of two ways:
- LTISD Mobile app: download our free mobile app in the App Store or Google Play Store
- Website: visit www.ltisdschools.org/cavswhocare on your computer, laptop or tablet
Students can report bullying, suicide concerns, depression, threats, cutting, abuse, fights, drugs, alcohol, weapons, or any other type of dangerous situation that threatens their safety or the safety of others. Reports will be addressed by a trained team of crisis personnel, school officials, and law enforcement officers, when necessary.
The use of anonymous reporting apps has proven to be successful in providing the tools and information needed for school officials to proactively address concerning behaviors, potential incidents of violence, and other harmful situations on campus before they develop. We look forward to working with you and your family to continue making Lake Travis ISD a safe environment for our students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Sincerely,
Andy Michael
