Community Partner: The Ark
This year is the first year the Office of Service-Learning has worked with The Ark Shelter. Service-Learning students are able to help this shelter and make a direct impact on these youths. Partnering with The Ark gives them the opportunity to take personal action to make the Kalamazoo community a place where all people can live their lives with hope, confidence in themselves and a supportive community. Students have participated in several hands-on projects for The Ark and will continue to work with them until the end of the semester.
If you're interested in getting more involved with The Ark and their service, visit their website below.

Community Breakfast & Award Ceremony
The Service-Learning Community Breakfast and Award Ceremony for all current and potential Service-Learning students, faculty and community partners is coming up quick! This celebration is an opportunity for prospective service-learning students to get a better understanding of service-learning at WMU.
The ceremony will present Richard Szwaja, a dedicated faculty member, to explain the significance of service-learning at Western. Current and past service-learning students will share their personal experiences with a poster presentation of their projects. A light catered breakfast will be available while attendees share ideas with one another.
One student, faculty member and community partner will receive an award for their commitment and passion for service-learning. You decide who the award recipients will be. Who have you seen do an outstanding job for service-learning this year? Make sure to take a few minutes and nominate your dedicated peers on our website by December 1!
