Want to be on campus?
UELF is looking for Noon Supervisors for our team!
Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11:30am to 1:15pm. You will support students with transitions between lunch and recess. You get to help them open milk cartons, tear open snack packages and tease them about them feeding you lunch every day. It's a cute opportunity to engage with these spunky UELF Seawolves.
Looking for a place to volunteer?
Classrooms teachers are looking for parents to be fingerprinted and registered for field trips, special events, and classroom jobs. Get yourself set up so you're ready to be there when your student needs you.
Principal Lunde is looking for parent volunteers who would like to lead a game one day a week. This could be a Tag Session, Inside Board Games Room, Dance Party, Drawing Club, Book Club, etc. Pick Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 12:15pm to 1pm. You will have 20 minutes with each grade band; grades 3-5 and grades 1-2. This will compliment our Friday Running Club and continues our goal of offering other activities for students. The volunteer needs to make a commitment to weekly site visits so I recommend a team taking this on. Contact Principal Lunde if you have an idea!
Sign-up to work in classrooms or be a lunchtime activity leader.
ALL volunteers must complete the CRPUSD Volunteer Registration Process, which includes fingerprinting. Please complete the application form and get yourself fingerprinted. This MUST be completed before you can volunteer. Once this is completed, you are clear for the duration of your child's school experience in CRPUSD, including high-school and middle school!

Navigating the Recess Social Phenomenon
Recess is what most parents hear about at the end of the day. It is a major part of the day that our students look forward to and that brings our students stress. Recess is a student ecosystem of social navigating and it's hard. The peer interactions that occur during the unstructured free play that happens at recess promote social and emotional learning and development in children. Kids learn important communication skills during recess with situations that require cooperation, problem solving, negotiation, and compromise. Recess helps children learn social skills that will guide them through the rest of their lives. Since recess is student choice and peer-to-peer communication isn't monitored, it gives a child the chance to experience social interaction and learn to handle situations that come their way.
Based on our observations and the data we are collecting, there are two themes that come up, inclusivity and problem-solving. The games at recess, which are being taught in our PE classes, are open to all students who join. There is usually a start and finish, so a student may need to wait in line until the next round or until the next person gets out. Problem-solving is the acceptance of being out or how to agree when there are differing opinions. We are teaching the students Rock-Paper-Scissors/RoShamBo, if they disagree. Our message is move-on so more sets/games can happen and follow the rules learned in PE.
Imagination games are where we are seeing more data points around inclusivity. Often this is where students create their own rules so they change in the middle. We are monitoring this area. Talk with your children about both sides of the scenario and talk through how to navigate these situations.
School Attendance Celebrations
Beginning in October, classes will be celebrating 100% attendance, which includes getting to class on time. Being at school to participate in the full day supports the student to have access to their full day. The teacher can plan for the students being present all day and students strengthen their stamina to participate in their learning. When students miss school, arrive late or leave early, this disrupts the learning flow. Look for the sign below on your classroom door!
Please stay home when sick, however be consistent about attending school on other days. We are developing the habits of mind of perseverance, stamina and independence.
