Department Updates
Teaching and Learning_Patty Cooper, CAO
With the exception of U.S. History, all social studies classes should pilot the new standards next school year. U.S. History should continue to use the 2011 Frameworks next year since the assessment will still be written to those standards.
2018 MS College and Career Readiness Standards for Science
The 2018 MS College and Career Readiness Standards for Science should be fully implemented in all science class next year.
Pacing Feedback Requested
1. What worked well in regards to pacing last year?
2. What recommendations do you have for pacing next year?
Feedback should be e-mailed to pcooper@pc.k12.ms.us by May 21st. The curriculum team will use the feedback to prepare pacing for 2018-2019.
K-8 talking points for you to have with your teachers, if needed:
- Ready Math and Ready Reading (supplemented with instruction in foundational skills, language standards, and writing-for those grade levels not using Ready Writing) is our curriculum and is built and paced with research. We should not be extracting lessons from units and teaching them out of order.
- We will not do a week by week pacing guide. The standards will be divided by quarters giving teachers the flexibility to reteach a skill as needed.
- It is imperative that we are teaching the standards using high-quality instructional materials that align to the grade-level standards.
I look forward to the input from our classroom teachers!
