Frisco Family Services Food Drive
It’s that time again, the canned food drive is happening at Norris on September 5-15th! You may send your child with items to donate on September 5-15th. There is a competition between the classes to see what class can donate the most items toward the food drive! The class that donates the most goods in each grade level will receive an extra recess and the class that donates the most goods in the entire school will earn a pajama party!
Acceptable Items to donate are:
-canned food
-bathroom items (personal care)
-cleaning supplies
-boxed food
-Baby items
We are so excited to participate in the food drive again and cannot wait to see how many canned goods we can donate as a school!

Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Miller
Hello Norris parents,
I am your counselor, Mrs. Miller!
I am so honored to serve the students and families of Norris Elementary. As our school counselor, my goal is to help all students understand and satisfy their social and emotional needs and to help guide and prepare them for their future.
This is my 11th year in education and my 10th year in Frisco ISD. I am a former high school family and consumer science teacher at both Liberty and Independence. When I was in high school, family and consumer science classes were called home economics.
I went to Texas Tech University for my bachelors in human development and family studies and received my masters of science in counseling at Southern Methodist University. This is where I learned I wanted to work with elementary students.
This is my 3rd year at Norris as a proud counselor. I am so excited for this year and I look forward to meeting and working with your students!
Clothe A Child and Small World Angel Program
The applications were sent home to families last week. If you would like to receive an application please pick one up from the office ASAP. The deadline to have your form back to your Counselor is September 8th.
- Clothe A Child is a program in which churches, business partners and friends join with Kohl’s to provide the opportunity for children of families struggling with economic difficulties to receive new school clothes. - Small World Foundation is a non-profit organization that partners with the Frisco ISD school district providing three different programs to its students. Our mission is to assist struggling families, focusing especially on the needs of children and our goal is to break the cycle of poverty. Help Needed - College & Career Week
I am needing volunteers next week to help me hang our staff graph chart of where we all went to college. We have many of the items from last year that just need to be put up. Some will need to be fixed or re-done for this year. I will also need some to hang our college pennants up in the café on Thursday Sept. 7th or Friday Sept. 8th. If you can help, email me at: millerju@friscoisd.org
Other ways to help:
- I am looking for a few parents who might be interested in helping us with college and career week next year. If you are willing to share interesting facts about your career or might be willing to be interviewed about their job, please send me your name as well as your student’s name. I am hoping to have a few fun videos for college and career week, Sept. 11-15th.
- If you visited a college or moved your child into college, please help us by sending a few pictures and or videos of your visit. I want to make college and career week more personal this year! We add them into the slide show displayed during lunch. J
- Please help us grow our college prize collection. We would be so thankful if you could send the following email to your alumni association in hopes of us receiving some items to post/give out as rewards for our college and career week. Below is a sample email you can alter to send out...
Dear____Alumni Association,
My name is _____________ and I have a child who attends Norris Elementary in Frisco, TX. College and Career week (September 11-15th, 2017) is a chance for our students to be exposed to college and or technical training as a goal and to develop a mindset that will carry them into their future. As a proud alumni, I want _________________(insert school) to be represented for my child!
As an Alumni of _____________(insert school), I am wanting to promote ______________(insert mascot) pride at Norris’s annual College and Career week. Our school is seeking posters, updated statistical handouts, pennants, promotional items etc… to display and give away to our students.
If you are able to contribute in any way, please mail items to:

College & Career Week
Norris Elementary is preparing for our 3rd annual College and Career Week. All FISD schools will be celebrated September 11-15th. The premise behind College and Career Week is to teach children that preparing for higher education and training for college and career begins now by setting goals and forming good habits. We will be discussing college, careers, and goal setting in guidance lessons and character lab this month. Our focus will be on setting goals and exploring career options. There will be fun activities and prizes throughout the week that emphasize goal setting and, the importance of graduating from high school, and post high school education and training. So pull out college apparel and colors, and start talking to your children about the value of college and career readiness.
The 21 Day-Challenge is Coming!
