HES Shark Scoop
March 17, 2023
From Principal Cutone
Dear HES Families,
Happy Friday, and happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend ahead. Today, we continued our March Madness Friday Fun with “Sports Day”. Everyone was invited to wear their favorite team jersey to celebrate the day; see photos below!
Another one of our highlights this week was on Tuesday, when Ranger Sam came to HES to talk to our third graders about the history of the Cape Cod Canal. In May, our third-grade classrooms will be traveling to the Canal’s Visitor Center on a field trip, where they will board a retired U.S. Army Corps of Engineers patrol boat! It was a gift for Ranger Sam to visit and give them a bit of background information before their trip.
Our Sharks continue to fill their classroom fishbowls, and I’m always delighted to see the creative ideas they come up with to celebrate. One in particular from this week made me laugh - a Stuffie Sleepover in Mrs. Smith’s kindergarten class. Check out the photos below to see the shenanigans the stuffies got into when left alone for the night!
On another note, I wanted to make grown-ups at home aware of what seems to be an ongoing issue popping up with some of our Sharks. There are certain games and videos that students are watching on YouTube or TikTok lately that aren’t appropriate during school hours. While these games may be named something inconspicuous (I know of “Poppy Playtime” which includes a character named Huggy Wuggy, “Rainbow Friends”, and “Garden of Bam Bam” to name a few), they actually include monsters and are considered to be in the genre of horror. I am asking caregivers to be cognizant of these games. I also implore families to be aware of these games at home, be open, and talk to your children about what they are looking at online. Here is a link to a software program that allows you to set up blockers for inappropriate content on your home devices.
I hope to see you tomorrow at the Shamrock Shimmy!
My best,
Christie

Queridas famílias do HES,
Meu melhor,
Christie
