Handel's Life
George Frideric Handel was born in 1685 in Halle, Germany and died in 1759 in London. He is considered one of the greatest composers of the Baroque Era (1600-1750). He is best know for his oratorio "Messiah." His most popular instrumental works include "Water Music," written to entertain King George I as he sailed down the Thames river, and "Fireworks Music," written for a royal fireworks display celebrating the Peace of Aachen.
Sonata VII
Sonata VII was composed for flute and "basso continuo" around 1711. This sonata would have been played on a wooden flute with six finger holes and only one or two keys. It was held like a modern flute but fingered like a recorder. The basso continuo consisted of a bass instrument (cello or bassoon) and a keyboard instrument (harpsichord)
Jon Lucht
After touring with Lady Gaga as lead trumpet player for two years, Mr. Lucht decided that teaching was in his blood. He has been teaching for 25 years and has been at Discovery for 8 years. He loves the lake life, and loves camping and golfing. He resides in Fargo with his wife and 3 children.
arranger: Robert Galapagos
Robert arranged this piece in 1982 for flute and piano. He was a graduate of Eastman school of music in 1974, and has played professionally for years, most recently with the Fargo Symphony. He has written and arranged hundreds of pieces for Alfred Music, and is active as a clinician and guest conductor all over the world. He claims Jon Lucht as his main inspiration for his choosing this profession, and frequently mentions him in presentations everywhere.
Reflection
I thought this project rocked. It inspired me to perfect this piece, and made me a better player all around. I bought this tune on itunes, and I play it all the time on my ipod. The teacher was most helpful in aiding me to complete this assignment, and I can't think of life without him. I hope everyone enjoyed my performance.
