SHADY GROVE MATTERS WEEKLY UPDATE
April 7, 2024
THE ADMINISTRATOR'S CORNER
Greetings Shady Grove Families! We welcomed students back from spring break this week. In Homeroom, we reviewed school expectations that help make SGMS a safer and more respectful place. Please ask your students to tell you one thing they will do or do differently to do their part. Tuesday, April 9 is the last day of Quarter 3 so please ensure your student submits all work. A reminder that there is no school for students on Wednesday, April 10 for Grading and Planning. As we return from Spring Break, we also enter the peak of MCAP (Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program) testing season. The MCAP serves as a pivotal benchmark for evaluating students' academic progress and ensuring educational standards are met. With meticulous preparation and determination, students will navigate through the rigorous assessments, showcasing their comprehension, problem-solving skills, and literacy abilities. This period marks not only a test of individual achievement but also a collective endeavor to uphold academic excellence and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within our educational community The MCAP assessment in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math will take place in the MORNING so please ensure students are well rested, and here at school on time and present.

SPECIAL EVENT FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Hello Families,
I’m the College and Career Information Coordinator at Magruder and I’m hosting a virtual event in April called “Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College”. The event is geared for parents of middle and high school students, with the understanding that the (ever rising) cost of college often takes people off-guard. Topics covered during this virtual event will include:
- College funding strategies for parents with students who DO and DO NOT qualify for financial aid
- Strategies for parents who are looking to fund their student’s college education without destroying their plans and dreams for retirement
- The 13 most popular college funding financial vehicles explained and debunked
- How to implement strategies that may allow students to attend out-of-state or private colleges for a lower cost than attending an in-state public
- Ways to maximize and increase financial aid eligibility
The event will be Thursday, April 11th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
