Reading
Mrs. Sayre read us a poem about snowflakes and then read a nonfiction book titled Snowflake Bentley. We then compared the difference between a poem and text.
SeeSaw
Students make snowflakes out of coffee filters (your supply may suddenly disappear) then we took a picture of our snowflake and recorded the difference between the poem about snow and Snowflake Bentley.
Fractions
After finishing up 3d shapes, part of the geometry unit deals with fractions. We divided a paper plate into 1/2 and 1/4. We will be working with fractions for the next week before we take our end of unit test.
Writing
We started our opinion unit in writing. To understand what an opinion is, we sorted fact and opinion statements. We discovered that an opinion is how you feel about something and that everyone has a different opinion!
Math
Shape surprise--reaching in a bag and describing the attributes on a 3d shape helps us to understand each of the 3d shapes.
More Shape Surprise
Reaching in and finding the shape to describe was harder than it looks.
AR
Students are very excited about taking AR tests to meet their goals. We do need to be mindful to take tests at our levels--I will delete ones that are too low for the reader. Our goal is to read books at our appropriate level--not just to get prizes. (but who doesn't like prizes?????)
STEM challenge
Students need to build a structure out of the given material to hold up 100 pennies. They were only given 15 minutes to plan and put the plan into action.
Stem challenge...
Working as part of a team is what we want the students to get out of these challenges.
Top Dog
Emmette was our Top Dog this week. His favorite animal is an elephant and he loves to eat spaghetti. He is pawsome at family game night and video games. He wants to be a police officer when he grows up.
