Deadlines
Early Decision is a binding commitment
Early Action is an earlier deadline with no commitment
Regular is a specific date
Rolling Admissions accepts students until the seats are filled.
Mark your deadlines on a calendar and don't miss them.
SHRHS Term 1 ends November 5th with report cards issued the following week.
Submit your application, ensure your materials are in and the guidance office will submit all supporting documents.
Letters of Recommendation
Please give the recommender enough advance notice if you are asking them. Students are asked to fill out the letter of recommendation form in the Guidance Google Classroom for the Class of 2022.
Every year there are students that ask 4-6 teachers for letters and choose what they feel are the best letters. Out of courtesy we ask students to ask teachers who they feel known them best for a letter they will end up using for an application.
Financial Aid Webinars
When you apply for Federal Financial Aid make sure you use the correct website. https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out
If you would like to accept any financial aid(grants, loans, workstudy) you must fill out the FAFSA. The opening date to fill out the FAFSA is October 1st.
Common Application
The application is lengthy so begin it early if you are using it.
In the education part they will ask for grading scale which is on a 4.00 weighted scale. You will need your rank which can be found on your unofficial transcript in your schoolbrains portal.
You must also link your Common App account with your Naviance account.
Here is short video all about the common application: https://www.commonapp.org/apply/first-time-students
Naviance
Data- Naviance has several years worth of data of SHRHS graduate and the result of their applications. It shows whether students were accepted, denied and if they chose to enroll in the school.
Documents- All Supporting documents(Initial Transcript, Optional Transcript, Midyear Transcript, Final Transcript, and Letters of Recommendation) are all sent electronically through Naviance unless a school only accepts paper in which case we will email or mail the documents if they are accepted.
Letters of Recommendation- Students will need to invite their recommenders through Naviance so that the recommender can submit the letter.
College Admission Counselor Visits- There will be a number of college visits during the Shepherd Hill lunches. The schedule is in Naviance. This is a great way to connect with your area admission counselor.
Testing
To register for the SAT go to https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/dates-deadlines
Many schools will also take the ACT https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html
Remember to send your scores officially from collegeboard to the school in which you are applying.
We do have SAT fee waivers if you qualify for free/reduced lunch. See your counselor.
In the end do what the school application asks for.
College Decision Day Series
If you are, you should strongly consider signing up for 1 or more of these dates. Attached is the flier listing information on how to reserve your spot.
If you don't know what Decision Day is, it is a one-day event where you will receive your admission decision ON THE SPOT. You have a brief, 10-15 minute meeting with the Admission Counselor and at the end of it, you will know if you got accepted to that college. These events are free. If accepted, you ARE NOT committed to go to that college. Who doesn't like Free stuff and Instant Gratification of finding out if you have been accepted on that same day?!?!
Sign up with Mr. Gendron in Guidance. Spots are first-come, first-serve.

See our World Language Department if you would like to pursue this achievement.
What Honors or Awards have you earned Academic or Non-Academic?
How do you spend your time outside of academics? Sports, Clubs, Activities, Volunteering, a Part-time job?
Continue to build your resume. If you feel you need to boost your resume make an appointment with your counselor to talk about opportunities.
