ECLIPSE - No School for Students on April 8, 2024
There will be NO SCHOOL for PK-12 students on Monday, April 8, 2024 - the day of the highly anticipated Total Solar Eclipse. In lieu of attending school, the District highly encourages students to safely enjoy the Total Solar Eclipse, as this is certain to be an extraordinary and memorable scientific event to observe!
ALL Munson students will receive their own pair of eclipse glasses prior to April 8 so they can observe the eclipse safely! Thanks to Judge John Eklund for donating the glasses!
A Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This morning, we had a school-wide lockdown drill. It was our second lockdown drill this school year. The Geauga County Sheriff's Department came to the building to observe and assist us. The students were told about the drill ahead of time, and I am proud to say that they did very well. It's important that we practice these drills, and we always emphasize that the drills are to help keep us safe at school. If you have any questions about our safety drills, please let me know.
The One School One Book committee has been hard at work preparing for three AWESOME weeks of reading as a school community! We have so many fun activities, contests, and surprises planned. Please carefully review the OSOB packet that comes home with your child on Friday, 3/1 after our book reveal. It will contain the reading schedule, details about some of our contests, and more. Also, make sure to mark your calendars and RSVP for Family Literacy Night on March 21 from 6-7:30pm! This will be a night full of great activities and games for the whole family. (We do want to make you aware that there is an "adult word" in the selected book on page 106, so that you can choose how to handle that while you read with your child. The staff member reading that chapter aloud for our podcast will use an alternative word in the recording.) HAPPY READING!
Thank you,
Mathew Prezioso
Principal, Munson Elementary
Mr. Prez's Pic of the Week
We had the best time at our assembly with Jim "Basketball" Jones! We played games like Simon Says, had some students help Mr. Jones with his tricks, and talked a lot about helping others and overcoming adversity. We all agreed that at Munson, we are NICE - we Notice, Include, Care, and Encourage.
Summer School FYI
Chardon Local Schools will hold summer school on the weeks of June 3, 10, and 17. Third grade testing will be the following week for any students who have not passed the required score for the AIR test. Stay tuned for more information!
Infinite Campus Annual Update
The Annual Update must be completed by ALL Chardon Local Schools households every year, for every student, even if there are no changes. This ensures that you have created your Parent Portal Account so that we have the most accurate information for your student and household. This helps us to contact you promptly in case of an emergency, allows you to play for student meals and school fees online, and gives you access to important forms and documents, including report cards. We need your updated information as soon as possible! Please find Annual Update instructions HERE.
Mrs. Sobodosh, Mr. Buemi, and Mrs. McClintock's classes are still the only classes to have completed ALL of their Annual Updates! Mrs. Suszynski, Mrs. Woodrow, and Mrs. Burress's classes are SO CLOSE, with only ONE left to complete! Mrs. Hardman (2 left) is close behind, followed by Mrs. Turk and Mrs. Ferguson with 3, Mrs. Dinko and Mrs. Bates/Miss Gillespie with 4, and Mrs. Elliott with 8.
If you are not sure if your Annual Update has been completed, check with the office. Thank you!
Topper Ticket Winners
Topper Tickets are part of Munson's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) system and are given to students as a special recognition when they demonstrate a Topper Trait - Taking Responsibility, Offering Kindness, and Persevering. Each day, we randomly select a few Topper Ticket winners from each grade level to receive a prize! Check the newsletter each week for their names!
1st grade: Lily Selfridge, Landen Udovic, Austin Sopko, Jocelyn Fox, Robby Raphael, Lotus Frankenberry, Collyn Cooper, Jolee Hanson, Cooper Smith, Franki Kula

We also randomly choose Topper Ticket winners to spin the Wheel of Fun each week! (We even have a Wheel of Fun theme song! Ask your kids about it!) The prizes on the wheel are a step up from the usual, and include things like having lunch with a friend in Mr. Prez's office, visiting a "secret" part of the school, having your name on the school sign outside, book vending machine tokens, and more! Congratulations to this week's winner - Blake Landies! Blake got to play a game with Mr. Prez and friends!
Topper Trait of the Month
Munson Hilltoppers use their CRITICAL THINKING skills, even at recess! We were able to bring out the giant tic tac toe board this week and students had a great time playing different variations of the game! It was great to see how they learned and strategized differently in each round they played.
