News From the Principal
Dear Tierrasanta Elementary Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Picnic on Friday! It was a beautiful day and we loved having so many visitors on campus. We appreciate you!
Please save the date for our School Carnival on Friday, April 19th from 4-7! We need lots of volunteers to be able to hold this event. If you are able to work a game booth for a one hour (or more) shift please let me know by emailing me at sviavada@sandi.net
Thanks in advance!
The Harvest of the Month for March has been Organic Kumquats! Watch this short video to see where they come from: YouTube Virtual Field Trip Video Next month the salad bar will be featuring tangerines!
We are working on the site schedule for next year and need the most accurate enrollment information possible. If you are not returning to TES next year please fill out this very brief form so we can plan accordingly. Thank you! (Current 5th graders do not need to respond): https://forms.gle/o7Q9iNoHduikVGaW6
Parent/Guardian Survey: It is time for the "California School- Parent Survey". Please fill out one per family to provide us with feedback as to how we are doing! If you do not know the answer to a question or it is not applicable to our school or student please leave it BLANK and proceed to the next question. There is no N/A or I don't know option on this survey but it will accept blank responses. Thank you! Link to PARENT survey: https://wested.ugam-apps.com/wested/ts/se8v
Progress on School wide WIG (Wildly Important Goal): Our next cut-point is 650,000 puzzles by April 26th! Currently we are at 546,653 puzzles. If we can do it, we will treat students to a "Sharpen the Saw" hour with fun activities for students to choose from led by teachers showcasing their own individual strengths and talents!

Summer Academic/ESY Program begins Wednesday, June 12, 2024 and ends Friday, July 12, 2024.
There will be NO School on Wednesday, June 19th and Thursday and Friday, July 4th and 5th.
Academic Program will be one (5) week session (4) four hours per day: 8am to 12:00 pm. Our summer program is an extension of the school year and not a remedial program. This year we are also excited to offer a SPANISH IMMERSION summer school program here at TES for our Spanish Immersion students.

SDUSD is currently hiring for clerical subs! If you have any interest in subbing for our front office staff (and/or those of nearby schools) when they are absent, please apply for the position through the link below and let us know!
https://www.schooljobs.com/careers/sandi/jobs/3321194/clerical-and-secretarial-substitute
We are also hiring and in need of PIF substitutes at Tierrasanta Elementary! Our amazing PIFS support teachers and work with small groups or individual students with IEP's both in the general education classrooms and in our mod/severe classroom. When PIFS are absent we rarely get subs to fill in for them (because there is not a robust pool of substitutes). We would love to have some local parents, neighbors, friends of TES, on call to fulfill these important roles when needed. If you are interested in applying please contact Alyson Gore at agore@sandi.net to walk you through the process. Starting pay is $22/hour. Thank you!!!
Don't forget... every Friday is school spirit day! We encourage all staff and students to wear school spirit wear or our school colors (red and yellow) on Fridays. This year spirit gear will be sold online. Look for info coming home soon about how to purchase.
At TES we are dedicated to serving our community and educating students in an engaging and child centered environment. Below are more resources and information you may find helpful. Welcome to the 2023-24 school year at Tierrasanta Elementary!

COVID-19 UPDATES: NEW GUIDELINES STARTING JANUARY 16, 2024
- CA Department of Public Health updated their COVID Isolation Guidance on January 9. Here are the important changes:
- Positive individuals with symptoms: individuals may return to work or school when they start to feel better, their symptoms are mild and improving, and they have not had a fever for 24 hours without fever reducing medications. There is no longer a “5 day” rule to stay home if feeling better.
- Positive individuals with NO symptoms may stay at school or work.
- People who have been exposed do not need to test unless they have symptoms or are at high risk for severe illness or have contact with people who are at risk for severe illness. In these situations, test within 5 days from the last date of exposure.
- Mask recommendations or requirements have not changed (those who test positive should mask indoors when around others during the full 10 days following symptom onset date (or positive test date if no symptoms). However, confirmed cases may remove their mask sooner than 10 full days after two sequential negative antigen tests at least one day apart.
If test results are positive, the person may still be infectious, and should continue wearing a mask and wait at least one day before taking another test up to Day 10.
Communication Device Policy:
All communication devices (including cell phones and smart watches) must be powered off and put away (in backpacks) during school hours. If you need to get a message to your student, please call the front office at 619-205-2500.
