A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, students learned that being a reviewer is a career! People actually get paid to go see movies, try out restaurants, and travel to fun vacation destinations! Our young writers are taking on the task of being reviewers. They chose a topic (a toy, game, movie, restaurant, or other place) to write an opinion piece about. They are learning that their review should sound almost like a TV commercial, talking right to their readers. They will learn to say hello to their reader by grabbing their attention (Do you like pizza? Are you bored with your same old pizza places? Then you should try...) They will also learn how to say goodbye to their readers by telling them to do something about it and give it a rating! (So if you are looking for a new pizza place, then hop in the car and go to...I give it 5 stars!)
Math:This week, students worked very hard on mastering the number bond method of solving 2 digit + 2 digit addition. They "bust apart" one of the numbers to either add ten first, or make a friendly ten, then add the other part. An example is pictured below of the kind of work we are doing! We will continue to practice these strategies next week.
Word Study: This week, we continued to work with long vowels teams. Our focus was on ue and ew. Students practiced words such as flew, new, grew, blue, glue, clue, etc. Next week, our focus will be a review of long vowel spelling patterns.
