What are we learning in class?
Our class has continued to focus on main idea and details, questioning, and the genre of nonfiction. We will be utilizing reader's theaters this week to practice fluency. Next week, we will wrap up Unit 1 by completing an end of unit assessment. We will complete the first part of the test together and discuss test taking strategies. The class will complete the second part and the writing portion on their own. The test structure is two nonfiction articles and the questions will focus on skills practiced in class.
Last week, we began Nonfiction Thursday. This will be assigned each week that we do not have book club. I have sheets copied in my class and time is given during guided reading time throughout the week to complete this assignment.
Writing
We are wrapping up our paragraphs this week. The topic was to recommend a book to a friend citing at least 3 reasons why it was a great book to read. The kids practiced using the paragraph structure practiced in class. This will be due on Wednesday, September 30th. We will begin memoirs on Thursday.
Social Studies
We are finishing up our social studies brochures this Wednesday. The outline has been shared on GoogleDrive and all of the kids have been given a rubric. Please ask your child about their progress on this assignment. On Thursday, we will begin our unit on Exploration.
Math
Unit 2 focuses on place value concepts, multiplying, and dividing. Continue to save any graded homework as a way to review for the Unit 2 test.
