Principal Note
Keep up the Great Work Mustangs!!!
We have now completed our 5th full week of school, and I want to give a HUGE Munhall Horseshoe Shout Out to our students and Mustang parents. Our remote students are slowly transitioning to Zoom, which I hope provides greater opportunities for breakout sessions, small group work, with minimal technical issues. Our in-person Mustangs continue to grow in their ability to be respectful, responsible, problem-solvers by wearing their face coverings appropriately, maintaining social distancing, and following all of the health and safety guidelines. Above all, our students are working really hard! They are showing grit and determination, which are two of the biggest traits when thinking about the Mustang Way. Go Mustangs!
Pick-A-Time: Parent/Teacher Conferences
Pick-A-Time has now opened for parents to begin signing up for fall Parent/Teacher conferences. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 8 (8:00am-8:00pm) and Friday, October 9 (8:00am-12:00pm), which is a change from previous years. When parents select a conference date/time, the system will automatically generate a Zoom link, which will need to be accessed to gain entry into the virtual conference. Due to current COVID restrictions, meetings will be held through video conferencing. To sign-up for a teacher conference, parents will use the online portal Pick-A-Time. Pick-A-Time will be available through October 7th. Pick-A-Time directions are attached here: https://district.d303.org/doc/1AGzWO-lCmjelagoeExEGsFU6OcaH_Pcc. Therefore, there will be no school for students on conferences dates.
Remote Learners: Parents of remote learners will receive communication regarding conferences, as well as directions for Pick-A-Time in a separate email, as the process will look a bit different.
Conference Scheduling for Specials Teachers
If you would like to meet with one or more of your child’s specials teachers, please email them directly to set up a conference time. Our specials teachers teach in numerous settings this year, including multiple schools and/or in-person and remotely, and this will ensure that you are able to find a time that works for everyone involved.

Safety Drills
During the month of October, all in-person Mustangs will take part in our three required safety drills: evacuation, severe weather, and lockdown. The STC Fire and Police Department will observe our evacuation (fire) and lockdown drills, respectively. The drills, themselves, will look different from years’ past, as all participation will be mindful of social distancing guidelines. I will communicate the specific date(s) with parents once they are identified.
Food Service Program
This is a reminder that ALL students have access to free school lunches through December 31, 2020, as part of the Summer Food Service Program. Each day, students have the choice of three lunch options. Lunch counts are taken each morning in the classroom, and are provided to students upon entrance into their eating space. A la carte items are not part of the Food Service Program, which means the money would be deducted from your child’s Push Coin account. Again, to reiterate, all students have access to free school lunch until December 31, 2020.
Also, remote learners also have access to free meals. Meals can be picked up at Munhall on Mondays and Thursdays between 2:00-2:30. In addition, meals can be picked up at ANY location, not only Munhall.
iReady Results and Parent Communication
This fall our students completed an iReady diagnostic assessment in reading and math. By the end of next week, as parents will receive their student results. For remote learners, you will receive your letter/information via US Mail, and all in-person learners will receive their envelop in their backpack. I will communicate with in-person parents on the day the results are distributed, so you can be aware to check out the backpack!
School Pictures and Munhall Yearbook
I continue to work with our picture vendor to plan a safe school picture experience for our students and staff. Although details are not finalized at this time, I want all parents to be aware that we are planning school pictures, we will have a school yearbook at the end of the year, and we will also have a plan for our remote students to take pictures in a safe manner.
I look forward to my continued partnership with the PTO, and the yearbook committee, to put out a product that we can be proud of, and one that chronicles this school year.
Attendance: Remote and In-Person
Student attendance will be taken online daily by teachers during in-person and synchronous remote learning. Any students not in attendance will be reported to the school’s main office. Parents/guardians should call the school’s attendance line (available 24/7) and leave a message to report student absences for any reason. When you call to report an absence for your child who isn't feeling well, and can't participate in-person or remote learning, please include your child's symptoms with your message.
Have a great weekend!

Kindergarten students can order take home meals
