Read Across America Week
Our Reading Team at Hillcrest and our wonderful Librarian Ms. Barrow put on a WONDERFUL Read Across America for the students. Ms. Barrow transformed her classroom into a Book Cafe where students were able to enjoy reading books. The Reading Team set up an amazing assembly and students enjoyed the dress-up days throughout the week!
Lunar New Year
Students at Hillcrest celebrated Lunar New Year with an assembly! The assembly taught us about the Lunar New Year traditions that are celebrated by many people and countries. Students also learned about the Lion Dance, Wu Shi!
The Asian Lion came around after the assembly to visit students in their classrooms!
Thank you to Dr. Fox for putting together a wonderful experience!
March Students of the Month
A huge congratulations to our students who were recognized as our March Students of the Month! They have demonstrated to everyone that they are helpful to both their teachers and friends! Good job!
Students of the month were announced at our monthly PBIS Assembly. Students were randomly chosen from our PBIS ticket buckets to play Student vs. Teacher Knock Out! The Team who scored the most baskets in 3 minutes won!
Students in Fifth Grade practiced and planned their own kindness skits to perform at our PBIS Assembly! They acted out scenarios where students may have not been so kind to each other, and then acted out a way that the scenario could be done where students are respectful and kind! Thank you fifth grade for the refresher on our 3 B's: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible
AM K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade Students of the Month!
PM K, 4th and 5th Grade Students of the Month!
PBIS Winners
Congratulations to our PBIS Ticket winners this month! These students exemplified "Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful" and earned their tickets by making great choices.

Third Grade
Some of our third graders were able to enjoy some lovely weather outside while finding information about the animals they chose to investigate for MTSS Reading.
In Math, the third graders are enjoying the time they are spending on time:)
Finally, during Reading Across America week, we were entertained by the assembly about the Chinese New Year along with a special visit from the dragon in our classrooms, as well as, dressing up as our favorite book characters to wrap up that week.
Third grade is learning about many diverse influential women this month. We are tying their biographies into our informational research for our writing pieces.
Fourth Grade
From Crazy Hair to Crazy Hats the Fourth Grade Rocks and that’s just that. They’re learning about Wonders in Nature in Reading. In science their skills are expanding and exceeding!
4th graders are eagerly ready for warm weather and excited for the approach of Spring Break. They were treated to a special performance by acrobat Li Lu to help celebrate the launch of Read Across America Week. Students celebrated with many themed dress up days and were visited by guest readers throughout the building. 4th graders are finishing up their last module of Science before we move on to Social Studies and learn all about the different regions of the United States and specifically, the Northeast Region. Students are also getting ready for PSSA’s which are less than a month away. Wishing all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students best of luck on the tests.
Fourth Grade Students listened to a fun story told by their special Guest Readers during Read Across America week!
Fifth Grade
Fifth Grade enjoyed a wonderful story by their Guest Reader!
GLAM
For "Dress like your Favorite Book Character Day", some of the Specials teachers dressed up as crayons from the book
"The Day the Crayons Quit"!
Students in Mrs. Kiely's first grade class loved playing Bowling Bingo in Ms. Longo's PE class!
Reading
In Mrs. DiPaul's class, we played "Heads Up Dictation Sentences." The kids wore a sentence on their head and a partner read the sentence to them. They had to dictate the sentence onto their white board. This was great reading and spelling practice while working with a partner and having fun.
