Reminder of Spring Events

Reminder of Opportunities to Get Involved
As Casting for Hope gears up to celebrate its first decade of service, we wanted to remind you of two opportunities to be part of our second decade! The information below concerns our 5K race, which is virtual this year and can be run from anywhere in the world during the week of Easter. The second is about our 10th Annual Casting for Hope. We have opportunities for limited volunteers and pledges of support to fuel our programs into our second decade! We hope to connect with you over the next several weeks!
Morning (Or Week!) of Hope 5K
Calling all runners and walkers who want to support Casting for Hope! While we will hold off on congregating a group of runners on the same path this year, we would still love to encourage folks to get outside and enjoy this spring weather by participating in our virtual 5K fundraiser. Our Morning of Hope 5K this year will take place March 29th until April 4th.
With the ability to run anywhere and submit your results, the possibilities are endless for ways to race...map out the distance ahead of time or use a GPS watch, run alone or with your family, run on a nature trail or in your own neighborhood! All race proceeds will go towards Casting for Hope’s efforts to provide financial and emotional assistance to women with ovarian and other gynecological cancers.
We hope our supporters will use the flexibility of this year’s 5K to invite other friends to participate from afar so that we can reach more people than ever before. Registration is $25 and can be made here:

We can’t wait to see your times and where you all run! Shirts will be mailed to all participants and medals will be sent to winners following the race date. Enjoy your run/walks and thanks for supporting Casting for Hope!
Limited Volunteers Needed for Casting for Hope Fly Fishing Tournament--Returning to April...
While we’d love to have all 250+ people we normally have at the Retreat Center to celebrate 10 Years of Casting for Hope, we know that would be irresponsible at this time. So we are operating the 10th Annual Casting for Hope as a competitor-controlled event this year during the weekend of April 9-11.
But we do need a few volunteers at our tournament if you are able to assist as a sector judge (one per venue) or help with food prep/food delivery. We’ll also need help with our stocking day scheduled for April 5th. Here’s a rundown of the tasks we could use help on for each of these roles:
Food Prep/Delivery: To minimize COVID-19 risks, all meals for participants and volunteers for this event will be individually prepared and packaged by either the restaurant providing the meal or by CFH for delivery to anglers/volunteers. For the lunches that CFH is providing, we need assistance in packing sandwich boxes and filling the final bag with a bottle of water, a sandwich box, and a piece of fruit, and condiments. We also need food delivery help to deliver Friday and Saturday evening dinners to the sites. *Vaccination for COVID-19 is required to volunteer in this capacity.
Sector Judging: While this year’s Casting for Hope will be competitor controlled, we do need one volunteer per sector to oversee operations at that venue (communicate with John and Taylor that sessions have started/competitors have arrived/ensure that all participants have submitted their scores via the online platform and return the score cards at the end of the day, etc). You will also help with meal distribution at your site. We need one person for each of the five venues for each of the three days of April 9, 10, and 11.
Stocking: Ever wanted to know how those wily trout get to the river when they’re not native there? Stocking is a super fun day of putting fish in the creek. We have 3,500 lbs of trout coming to the Retreat Center on April 5th. Most of our stocking is done via a big trout slip and slide from the truck to the water...it’s a really fun day!
Can you help in any of these roles? If so, please complete this form so that we can get you plugged in: Volunteer Form for 10th Annual Casting for Hope
To ensure that we move from where we have been to that bright break in the forest post COVID, we need your help to make our 10th Annual Casting for Hope the best fundraising success yet! Can you pledge your support of this event? Any amount that you can help will go to supporting the women and families whom we serve. You can make flat donations to the whole event, per fish contributions for the whole event, or seek out an angler you’d like to support and do the same on his or her page. Info for pledging can be found here:

Thank you for considering helping us out in this effort to make 2021 Casting for Hope’s best year yet!
Stay safe!
Thank you for the support that you show Casting for Hope. The work that we do with women and families in North Carolina could not be done without you. So please consider signing up for our 5K, or volunteering in our April event, or making a pledge. Most of all, stay safe! We look forward to big hugs and community meals when it’s safe to do so.
