FROM the PRINCIPAL...
Dear Westbrook Families,
We had lots of exciting learning experiences at Westbrook this week! Our favorite was a lively all-school assembly featuring the Hogan Irish Dancing Company. Students were captivated by the vibrant costumes and impressive dance moves.
Thank you to the Westbrook PTO for sponsoring the Spring Kindergarten Art & Music field trip! On March 18th, our kindergarteners will enjoy learning new songs with Mrs. Mungovan in the music room and getting familiar with spaces they'll experience in first grade. They will also have a blast exploring the art room with Mrs. Meyers for a special painting project on April 8th and 12th.
First grade is getting ready for some springtime exploration! Our first-grade students will be venturing out to the Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley in Schaumburg for their Spring Ecology-Habitat Focus exploration. If you have not already, please be sure to submit the Field Trip Permission Form for your student. The schedule by class is listed below.
As you may know from the news (news link), there will be a solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. Westbrook has ordered safety glasses that will enable students to view the eclipse outdoors safely. This interactive map also helps show what the sun will look like at different times. Afternoon K/1 students will be provided background information about the eclipse and instructions on safely using protective glasses before teachers take their students outside to view the eclipse between 2:10 - 2:20 PM. Students will promptly return to the building as soon as they have viewed the eclipse. If you do NOT want your child to go outside on Monday, April 8th, to view the eclipse, please complete the below opt-out form by Wednesday, April 3rd. If you complete the form below, I will note your request and ensure your child can view a solar eclipse video with peers who also opt out. Solar Eclipse OPT Out Form
Mark Your Calendars! Spring Break is coming soon, with schools closed from Monday, March 25th through Monday, April 1st. Classes resume on Tuesday, April 2nd. Please note there's also no school on Tuesday, March 19th. We wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable spring break!

Celebrating History / Heritage Months
MARCH
March marks Womenโs History Month, a time set aside each year by presidential proclamation to honor countless womenโs contributions to American history. So many trailblazers and unsung heroines are to thank for the rights and opportunities girls and women enjoy today.
Our school librarians have set out books celebrating incredible women in history that students can check out. I encourage you to connect with your child/ren on the topic; you can find some great resources here that include short videos that bring these women and their contributions to life.
