Assuring Learning Excellence and Readiness for a Changing World
Week 1 Distance Learning
You have all worked so hard to deliver teaching and learning in a whole new way, in just 8 days. You did it! I continue be amazed and grateful for your dedication in moving student learning forward and in the care and support you have shared for our students. I can't begin to express my gratitude to you all. Thank you!
Thank you to all of you who submitted the survey! After 1 week of distance learning
60% it's going better than expected
35.7% the first week is going ok, but I know it will keep getting better
2.9% I'm not sure about this
1.4% I'm rocking this distance learning and the kids are rocking it, too
When asked what percent of students you have connected with
41.4% answered 75%
32.9% answered 90%
11.4% answered 50%
7.1% answered all of them
4.3% answered less than 10%
2.9% answered 25%
What was a bright spot for you this week?
Overwhelmingly, the answers had to do with students: seeing students, interacting with students, surprised at how well students are engaging, and the quality of work.
The most common concern teachers had was with the students they have not been able to connect with yet. If you have a student who you have not heard from, please submit this Student Concern form and our APs and support team will begin checking on them.
What the Students are Saying
After 1 week distance learning is...
38.7% OK, but I wouldn't want to do this all the time
34.8% better than I thought it would be
16.6% awesome, I've got this
9.4% not great, but I will get better at this
Students are commenting that they really like when teachers give them the plan for the week, and when they can connect with their teachers in a hangout.
When asked, "What's one thing you miss from school, that you never thought you would miss?"
the kids overwhelmingly responded, "My teachers!"
Good News to Share
A silver lining in COVID-19 is the number of parents who are showing their appreciation for teachers. I have received messages from parents singing your praises, and they should!
Here is what one parent shared about a teacher, " just want to thank you for your efforts to get your class online this week. I know it takes a lot of work to create a dynamic learning environment. I appreciate your commitment to their learning, not just now, but this entire semester. Thank you again for all the work you have done to keep learning as "seamless" as possible."
Beacon of Hope
Last count, 120 high schools in Minnesota are doing the same.
I hope you will join in and turn your porch light on Friday nights at 8:20pm. #BeTheLightMN
Building Information
As you know, our building is locked, and access is limited. If you need to come to school to pick something up, or complete a quick task, here is what we need you to do:

2. Use Door #19, that will be the only door your badge will open. Door #26 will work for those of you in the annex, but please check in at door #19 first.
3. Sign in at the table by the door, grab some disinfectant, and follow the directions provided by Scott Hogan.
4. When you are finished, sign out at the table, and return the disinfectant.
Please remember you will only have access from. 7:30am to 3:00pm.
These procedures are in place for as long as we are in Shelter in Place.
The office will be open. Secretaries will be here on a rotation, with 1-2 secretaries here each day. I plan to be here every day.
