Walker Elementary
Parent Newsletter for January 10-14, 2022
Dear Walker Families,
We hope you were able to enjoy a peaceful winter break. We were very excited to welcome our Wildcats back. We have had a great beginning to the second semester. Students were happy and excited to be back with their teachers and friends! Please read on for all the information you need for the upcoming weeks.
During the next two weeks, students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taking the NWEA MAP Assessment. Teachers will be sending home information about your child’s goal scores for the Spring MAP assessment. Please make sure your child is on time for school each day next week and gets plenty of sleep each night. We are excited for them to show what they have learned! Please help your child do their very best by talking at home about the importance of having perseverance and working hard to show all they know on this test. You can find more information about the NWEA MAP assessment by clicking here.
COVID Updates: The Arkansas Department of Health has updated its isolation guidelines if someone tests positive for COVID-19. If a student/staff tests positive for COVID-19, students/staff may return to school after 5 days if they do not have symptoms or if symptoms are improving.
Students/staff should wear a mask for an additional 5 days after returning from quarantine.
Student/staff should not return until fever-free for 24 hours
The Springdale Schools COVID reporting page lists the breakdown of active cases by building and can be found by clicking here. Dr. Cleveland's Spring 2022 message to parents can be found by clicking here. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) updated guidance for schools based on revised CDC guidelines and those guidelines can be found by clicking here.
Important Information
- Morning Routines: Carline Drop Off is between 7:15 and 7:45: Students cannot be dropped off at school before 7:15. Adult supervision begins at 7:15, and students cannot be unattended before adults are on duty. If your child arrives after 7:45 am, they need to be signed in to the office by a parent or guardian. You can scan the QR code on your car tag to do this; however, we ask that you still walk them to the front door. If students come up to the door by themselves and if no one is in the office, they are locked out. Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of all our Wildcats! All students can get a free breakfast from 7:15-7:45 in our cafeteria. Morning Choir Practice is at 7:15 on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so the car line may be a bit more crowded at that time on those dates. Thank you for your understanding!
- Car Line: Please remain in your car at all times in the car rider line. Students have worked very hard on becoming independent workers and learners this year, and helping them be independent in getting out of the car keeps everything running smoothly. The driveways and roads cannot be blocked when out on 40th Street in the car line, per Springdale Police Department.
- Masks: If you choose for your child to wear a mask at school, please provide your child with a mask and a backup mask in the backpack.
- PTA: Did you know that you can support our PTA with your Amazon purchases and/or by purchasing a membership to our local Sam's Club? More information is linked below.
- Are you or someone you know looking for a job? We are looking for substitute teachers and bus drivers for the 2021-22 school year! If you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Ryan or our district website for more information!
- Lost and Found: We already have a very large collection of items that are in our lost and found. Please make sure you have the student's name clearly marked on tags or inside a garment that may be removed throughout the day (coats/jackets, hoodies, etc.).
