Special Recognitions
Recognizing LeAnn Nunamaker for Receiving Distinguished Leadership Award
PSD honored LeAnn Nunamaker, Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, for receiving the 2022 Washington Association of Educators for the Talented and Gifted (WAETAG) Distinguished Leadership Award.
Each year, WAETAG honors individuals within Washington state who exemplify outstanding dedication to empowering educators and communities in supporting the educational and emotional development of talented and gifted students.
LeAnn is recognized for organizing, leading, and supporting PSD’s Highly Capable Program reform with a focus on equitable and research-based identification. The result has led to increased access to services for underrepresented students, especially for English language learners who are highly capable.
Congrats, LeAnn!
Professional Learning Communities Update
Carla Lobos, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, updated the Board on the District’s Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) - an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve.
Ms. Lobos discussed key concepts, the seven stages of monitoring the work, and district commitments. Board members were able to break into groups to hear directly from school Principals, and district consultant Dr. Luis F. Cruz regarding the positive impacts PLCs contribute to staff and students.
Small Innovative High School Program Design Update
Jennifer Kindle, Executive Director of Secondary Education, and Laura Jones, Career and Technical Education Director, provided an update on program planning for the Small Innovative School – now called the Career & College Academy – included in the bond scope for the February 2023 bond.
Mrs. Kindle and Ms. Jones reviewed the proposed school design and model, instructional components, career pathways of focus, similarities and differences between the new school and Delta High School, and feedback from student, parent, and community engagement events.
WSSDA 2022 Conference Student Representative Report
Sydney Stenson, Logan Stroup, and Emily Iniguez-Hernandez, PSD Student Board Representatives, debriefed the board on the student sessions they attended at the Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) Conference that was held November 17 - 19, 2022 in Spokane, WA.
At the conference, students learned about creating a culture of belonging and how they can implement these practices in their schools within our district.
