Superintendent's Update
April 3, 2024
FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT'S DESK
Hello Auburn Families and Staff,
As you may know, on Monday, April 8th, we will experience a solar eclipse, when the moon will block the face of the sun. This is a very exciting natural phenomenon and one that also poses a risk for anyone viewing it. Looking directly at a solar eclipse, without proper eye wear or filters, can damage your eyes. Our staff will take time to teach our students about the eclipse but they will not view it directly.
This also poses a bit of a challenge for dismissal at the end of the day. The information we have indicates that in Auburn, the eclipse will begin at approximately 2:15pm with the ‘darkest’ time being at approximately 3:30pm, while our afternoon dismissal is happening. We need your help to ensure that everyone stays safe.
There will be no outside games or practices that afternoon.
Satellite and Galaxy will stay indoors that afternoon.
If you want your child to view the solar eclipse, we ask that you dismiss them early to do so.
Please also remind your child that they should not look directly at the sun during the eclipse. Sunglasses do not provide the protection needed.
If your elementary child rides the school bus home in the afternoon, please be sure to be visible and at the bus stop to retrieve them. It could be somewhat dark at that time and we want to ensure that everyone is safe.
If your child normally walks home from school, you may want to consider picking them up at school that day. Again, the children must know that they should not look directly at the sun. Their eyes can be damaged if they do so.
If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s school and again, if you would like your child to view the eclipse, you are able to dismiss your child from school to do so.
Below you will find three important items given today’s date. First, the fee for 2024-2025 Bus The registration fee will increase as of May 1st. If you plan to have your child ride the school bus next year, please consider registering as soon as possible to both save money and help us with our planning for next school year.
I have also included links to two important events taking place this weekend. The first is the Auburn High School production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. If you are available, please consider coming to see our amazing and talented students in this fantastic production. I have some photos from the dress rehearsal also!
Also, this Friday evening is the Auburn Youth and Family Casino Night, one of their major fundraisers. Again, there will be celebrity dealers and a fun evening for adults. This is a great way to support one of the most amazing assets in the Auburn community.
