Tiger Talk
District Newsletter - February 25, 2024
Superintendent's Message
Loveland Tiger Families,
I sent the message below to all of our families on Friday, and our building principals also shared it in their weekly newsletters. I’m including it here to make sure all of our families have this important information.
There will be no school for students on Monday, April 8, 2024. A total solar eclipse will cross over Ohio that day, and we’re canceling classes to allow families to experience the eclipse together.
The timing of the eclipse presents a safety challenge. The eclipse will stretch over a period of about two hours around afternoon dismissal time. Students would be on buses, walking, or driving home when the eclipse hits its peak, making it very challenging for students to view this once-in-a-lifetime event safely.
This is the first total solar eclipse in Ohio in more than 200 years. The Ohio Department of Workforce and Development is warning that traffic could be heavy and cell service or internet service could be impacted because of the large number of people expected to visit the state.
I understand that a change to the schedule may be an inconvenience for families, which is why we’ve made this decision now, to give everyone time to prepare. Staff will still report to work on April 8 and use the time for professional development and training.
You can find more information about how to view the eclipse here safely:

If you ever have any questions, you can email me at broadwmi@lovelandschools.org.
Go Tigers!

Helping Families in Need with 3’s for LIFE
More than 3,000 canned goods have been donated to the LIFE Food Pantry thanks to generous donations from our community during the 3’s for LIFE campaign. Students in the Loveland High School Tigers Inc. program collected canned goods to help local families in need. During the campaign, Jarvis Global Investments donated 12 canned goods for every 3-point shot scored by a Loveland boys' or girls' basketball player. Over the last three years, 3’s for LIFE has collected more than 8700 canned goods to support the Loveland-based LIFE Food Pantry. Thank you to everyone who donated!
Science Lovers - Help Us Engage Curious Minds!
Do you love science? Have a science-based career? Or maybe a cool hobby? We are looking for presenters for LIS Science Day on Thursday, March 21st, from 7:45 am until 1:45 pm. (Lunch will be provided for presenters.) Our theme for the year is Science is CURIOSITY.
Volunteers will present a science topic of their choice for about 40 minutes to 5 different groups of students. Each homeroom group has about 28 kids. Present a lesson, lead a demonstration, or just deliver a talk about your science-related job! The possibilities are endless, and we are happy to help along the way.
We can only pull off this day if we obtain enough presenters. Even if it’s not you, maybe a coworker, a neighbor, or a family member could help make this day a huge success - please connect us. Contact Sudeepa Hall at hallz6521@gmail.com with any questions.

Busting Career Myths: A Panel Discussion for Families
Don’t believe the myths! Sponsored by the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce and the Loveland Business Advisory Council, this event in the LHS College and Career Lecture Series is designed for parents/guardians to gain a better understanding of the most in-demand careers in greater Cincinnati and beyond. The rapid transformation of the workforce over the last five years has created many new opportunities and considerations for families to make when discussing career options at home.
Join us on February 28 from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the LHS Auditorium to hear from Holly Binnig (Chief Medical Officer at HealthSource of Ohio), Mike Ferritto (Manager at Nestle PURINA), Patty Reisz (Senior Vice President, Commercial Credit IT at Fifth Third Bank) and Steve Kelly (Fire Chief at Miami Township Fire & EMS) about this important topic. Everyone will leave this panel discussion with the latest information about in-demand careers as well as proven strategies for career planning success at home. Simply complete this brief form to register. Feel free to reach out to our College and Career Counselor Drews Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions.

2024-25 and 2025-26 School Calendars Available
The school calendars are now available for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. You can view and print an easy-to-read version of the calendar and important dates by following this link to our website.
Transportation Challenges Continue
There is an urgent need for bus drivers for our district. Without additional drivers, we may be forced to skip some routes on some days because we are critically short-staffed. We are working to avoid this, but please create a backup plan for how your family would handle transportation in the event we are forced to limit bus service due to the driver shortage.
Loveland bus drivers receive paid training, health insurance, and retirement benefits. Follow this link to apply online, or call our Transportation Department at 513-683-3103. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors about this great opportunity to help our Loveland City School District community.
