School Librarians, We Appreciate You!
Thank you, Ms. Berton and Ms. Hughes! We are grateful for you!
Early Pick Up
Emergency Drills
It takes us three minutes and 19 seconds to exit the building, line up in the field and confirm that all students and staff are accounted for in an evacuation (fire) drill. That's fast!
Students and staff did a wonderful job during our Lockdown Drill this week. 100% of classrooms followed Locks, Lights, Out of Sight. Well done Scotties!
April's emergency drills are earthquake and evacuate (fire). During an earthquake drill, everyone in the building ducks, moves under something sturdy like a nearby table or desk if possible, and holds on to the table or desk legs until the drill is finished.
In an Emergency - Family Reunification
In the event of an emergency, it's important that you know our plan. We have a detailed plan that identifies which staff members will support different potential areas of need including supervising students, providing first aid, communicating with first responders and releasing students to their caregivers, among other things. Should there be a need to collect your child(ren) outside of the building, that will happen under the covered area behind the school, accessible by NE 66th Ave.
If there is a need for us to move far from the building, our second relocation site is at Sacajawea Head Start, located four blocks from Scott at 4800 NE 74th Ave.
Friday, April 5 - Teacher Planning Day - No School
Please note that there will be no school the Friday after Spring Break. Educators will use that day to prepare report cards for the third quarter.

Attendance Matters
Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
Students who have consistent attendance are more likely to have school success.
Students are learning important social and problem solving skills that they will use throughout their lives.
Students with regular attendance, even in elementary school, are much more likely to graduate from high school.
Students are more likely to avoid engaging with law enforcement.
High school graduates make, on average, a million dollars more than someone who does not complete high school, throughout their work life.
Don’t let absences add up!

School Counselor Corner - Career Fair
Greetings Scott Families!!!
One week ago, on March 12, Scott School hosted over 40 diverse professionals for our 7th annual Career Fair. The purpose of this event is to support student development of a “Positive Attitude Toward Work and Learning” (Mindset #3 of the American School Counselor Association’s Mindsets and Behaviors). I hope it was effective! Sometimes it can be hard to encourage children to think big, believe in themselves, and keep trying new things when something is particularly challenging. I’ve encouraged all students to look at school like a gym for their minds - it’s NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY! And sometimes, what is hard isn’t what you expect it to be - it could be patience, or collaborating with someone whose beliefs are very different. But these things are worth it, and our presenters are living proof of it. Check out a mashup of our presenters talking about their first jobs, and talk to your kids about work - the good, the bad, and the opportunities for growth 😅!

From the Capitol to Our Classrooms - Championing Investments in Public Schools
From Scott PTA:
Hi fellow school advocates,
Insufficient funding is the #1 issue facing our schools - but how do we change that?
To discuss this question Oregon PTA is organizing a series of virtual meetings where we invite experts and stakeholders to share and discuss their perspectives on school funding.
The purpose of these events is to help parents and families to understand school funding as it is right now, to explore challenges and potential changes, and to empower families to advocate for better school funding in Oregon for all children.
It is my great pleasure to invite you to the first two events of the series we are calling:
From the Capitol to Our Classrooms -
Championing Investments in Public Schools
On March 26 at 7.30-8.30pm our first guest will be Senator Michael Dembrow, chair of the Senate Education Committee and long-time advocate for schools.
On April 25 at 7.30-8.30pm, we will have John Rexford, chair of the state's Quality Education Commission.
Further speakers will be announced shortly.
These virtual events are open to everyone (register here) and will include Q&A with the audience, so please share widely in your communities. Visuals you can use for promotion are attached. We also plan to make recordings of the events available on our website.
