viceroy: a Governer ruling a colony for an empire.
Dominion: are independent states but not completely sovereign
legal modernization: providing reforms and liberal ideas to older, traditional, more rigid ideals legally through the current government.
Paramountcy: is the legal principle that reconciles contradicting or conflicting laws in a federalist state.
Orientalism: literary and cultural studies scholars for the imitation or depiction of aspects of Middle Eastern and East Asian cultures.

partition of bengal: an act by the viceroy curzon that divided bengal into muslim and hindu provinces. this angered hindus.
all india muslim league: formed by muslim elites after hindus protested to the partition of be
ngal. they were favor of the partition because this gave them a political advantage.
mutiny of the indian national navy: a mutiny by indian sailors in bombay. this led to the end of the british raj. even though it did not last very long, the mutiny was very popular amongst the people.
