Friday Dismissal Time 1 p.m.
Letter from the Principal
Dear Central families,
It is definitely Fall in Washington. While the leaves are absolutely beautiful, please make sure your children are dressed warm for wet and windy weather as things can change during the day. We remind them to wear coats outside encourage them to keep them on during recess when it can be cool and damp.
Just a reminder, conference week this year is November 8-12, with Thursday, November 11 off of school completely for Veteran’s Day. On November 8, 9, 10 and 12 students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and are able to take a sack lunch home. Conferences will be held Monday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon and evening, and Wednesday afternoon and will be held on Zoom, due to Covid. You will receive more information from your child’s teacher.
Have a great end of the week and weekend, and hopefully you can find some time to curl up with a good book with your child and read together.
Take care,
Heidi Rothgeb
Principal

Possible transportation impacts
The district is preparing for the possible impact that our regional and state-wide labor shortage may have upon our bus driver workforce. The possible shortage combined with normal absences due to illness and personal leave could create a situation where bus routes would have to be altered.
Should we learn of an instance where we are unable to drive a route, or a specific route pick-up and drop-off times are delayed, the school district or your school will contact impacted families as soon as we are able through our School Messenger communication system (phone and email).
It is difficult to give a warning, not knowing if a situation is going to occur, or even when it could occur. However, we deemed it necessary to share the concerns as we plan for all possible scenarios in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please know we are actively training and recruiting bus drivers and have several individuals in that process who will soon be well trained to transport our students.
If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a bus driver, please have them contact us at 360-563-3525. We are currently paying $25.47 per hour (paid training available) plus bonus.
Would you like to work at Central Primary?
Do you have a bachelor's degree? Be a substitute teacher!
The Snohomish School District is also hiring emergency substitute teachers. Did you know you can become an emergency substitute if you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher? This position pays $185 to $260 per day (depends on duration of assignment) and the applicant must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and must pass STEDI subskills test. Contact Holli Fedewa in Human Resource Services/Guest Teaching for more information at 360-563-7247.
Attendance
If a student is going to be absent or tardy from school, the parent needs to call the school’s absentee message line, 360-563-4602, or email cpc-attendance@sno.wednet.edu, before 8:15 a.m. in the morning. Messages may be left on this message line at any time night or day. If we have not heard from you, we will attempt to call you to verify your student’s safety. For safety reasons, no student may leave the school campus during the school day without being signed out in person by his/her guardian or a designated adult.
According to Snohomish School District policy, absences due to illness or a health condition; a religious observance when requested by the student’s parents; a school approved activity; a family emergency; a school disciplinary action or short-term suspension as required by state law, are excused.
Snohomish School District Health & Safety Guidelines - Sick?
If a student or staff member is not feeling well and has any symptoms of illness, even mild ones, please stay home. Symptoms could include cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or loss of taste or smell. One symptom is enough to warrant staying home as a precaution. We know it can be frustrating to stay home with mild symptoms. Children get sniffles, a cough, or upset stomach from time to time, and this is usually not cause for alarm. But this pandemic is the time for extra caution, and all students and staff should stay home even if symptoms are mild. If a student or staff member with symptoms does go to school, or if they start having symptoms while they are at school, expect they will be isolated and sent home as soon as possible. This means an ill student would likely be asked to wait in a dedicated room where they are not near others until a parent/guardian arrives to take them home. Students who are ill or are symptomatic should be picked up within 30 minutes of parents/guardians being contacted.
- Fever (defined as subjective or 100.4 F or higher)
- Cough
- Chills
- Loss of sense of taste and/or smell
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle or body aches
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea (defined as 2 or more loose stool in 24 hours)
Upon returning home
The information in this section only pertains to those individuals who are not a confirmed close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:
- If the student or staff member is tested for COVID-19 (physician-, lab-, pharmacy- or clinic-confirmed test) and the results are negative, they may return to school once their symptoms have improved, and they’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours. Anyone with symptoms is encouraged to get tested.
- If a student or staff member has symptoms but is not tested for COVID-19, they must remain home according to the timelines below and at least 24 hours after fever is gone and symptoms have improved:
- 1 class A symptom of any duration = 10-day quarantine
- 2 class B symptoms of any duration = 10-day quarantine
- 1 class B symptom lasting more than 24 hours = 10-day quarantine
- Those who have symptoms but have not tested for COVID-19 and are not close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, may obtain a medical professional’s note clearing them for return. The medical professional’s note must be based on the individual’s established medical history or must include an alternative lab-confirmed diagnosis.

Important Message from our District Office
Masks/face coverings
It is clear in the updated guidance and from directives from Governor Inslee that masks/face coverings are required inside of all K-12 schools and on all buses, regardless of vaccination status. This is a state requirement. Masks/face coverings are not required when outdoors. Mask/face covering exceptions may be made for students with certain medical conditions or receiving special education services in some cases and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
