Counselor Corner
Hello Longview families and friends! As your school counselor, let me tell you about what is coming up and how things are going.
Safety Patrol Students have extended patrolling down to Maple Drive and will be greeting students at the Parent Pickup in the mornings. We are excited to expand our patrol as well as keeping students, parents, and staff safe. We definitely appreciate our student’s showing up and committing to our program.
Hawks Points prize drawings will continue to be on Fridays. Please encourage your child to engage in being Honest, Aware, Willing, Kind, and Safe!
In the month of March we are kicking off lesson 4 of our Second Step Bullying Prevention Campaign for grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
The Staff and Student of the Month event is coming up on Friday, March 8th. On this day we will be celebrating all the great achievements of our students! We will also be recognizing two classified and two certificated staff members for their contributions and dedication to our students. After our ceremony parents will have the opportunity to take a picture with their child with our new Longview Hawks backdrop.
Did I mention Football Thursdays and Fridays? We have had consistent participation and appreciate keeping this activity consistent each week. Sportsmanship and following the football rules of the game are important to making it fun and safe.

Physical Education with Mrs. Lacelle
Hi Longview families,
February P.E. Recap
Students kindergarten thru 5th grade participated in our Floor Hockey unit, where they learned stick handling skills, and participated in a variety of floor hockey activities and games. The remainder of the month was focused on ball handling and basketball skills. In Kinder-2nd grades students were introduced to ball handling skills and movement concepts most often associated with the sport of basketball. Hand dribbling, passing, and receiving (catching) were the primary skills emphasized.
In 3rd-5th grades students were focused on dribbling, passing, and shooting in dynamic practice environments.
Kids Heart Challenge
The American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge program is kicking off on Tuesday, March 12th! This year, our school will be learning how to have happy and healthy hearts and brains, while raising donations to help others with special hearts. Plus, your family can learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR in Finn’s Mission!
In honor of the American Heart Association’s 100th anniversary, we want 100% of families to get involved. So don’t wait! Register TODAY at www.heart.org/schools or by downloading the FREE AHA Schools App for Apple or Android.
Thank you for supporting our school and the American Heart Association. Together, we are saving lives.
March P.E.
Our March focus will continue to be on basketball skills. Students will also focus on our jump rope unit, which is a favorite here at Longview. Kindergarteners will learn how to turn and correctly jump a jump rope and the other grades will focus on building their skills and work on different jump rope tricks. We also have an endurance club challenge where students can see if they can jump for 1 minute, 2 minutes, or 3 minutes straight without stopping or making a mistake!
Calling all Longview students! Registration is still open for our FREE after-school program with the Boys & Girls Club at Longview from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm!
The Boys & Girls Club is a positive and safe place for students after school. Club members get to experience and learn about healthy lifestyles, do fun art & STEM projects, receive homework help, and a USDA-approved super-snack! The Club is excited to announce that we also now have a full-time Behavioral Support Specialist on staff for additional student support.
To register, call the club at 509.764.9694 or visit BNGClub.org.
