Perfect Attendance Challenge SUCCESS!
Our 1st Perfect Attendance Celebration was a tremendous success! We congratulated 131 students who didn't miss one day of school (and weren't late or dismissed) in January. Our school psychologist Robin Titus and attendance guru Janet Ferro led the charge to organize a fun time for all. The students were greeted and served cake and lemonade, enjoyed music and team challenges as well. The eighth grade had the most "perfect attendance winners" so they will be invited to a special enrichment in the coming weeks with games in the gym or Bingo with Mr. Burkhead.
Thank you to the planning team: Robin Titus, Janet Ferro, Liz Hoff, Betsy Casey, Joy Jordan, Emily Jutras and JoAnne Weekes. Thank you to our food services department for the delicious cake. We had water bottles donated from Shaw's and many great community volunteers came from the Harwich Police and Fire departments, Jan McGrory, Jill Eastman and Charlie McIntyre.
Stay tuned to the morning announcements! All names were put into a container and winners will be randomly drawn for surprises throughout the upcoming month.
Be on the lookout for our next Perfect Attendance Challenge in March.
Congratulations to all the students who SHOWED UP EVERY DAY for our first attendance challenge!

The Climate Change Challenge - Video Contest!
https://review.wizehive.com/contests/climate-change-challenge
Massachusetts High School Students:
Two important reports on climate change were recently released: the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report and the US National Climate Assessment.
Together, these reports sound the loudest alarm yet that devastating climate change is happening now and will continue to worsen without immediate, large-scale action.
The League of Women Voters has fought hard for climate action since the 1960s, and we continue the fight now.
To help us keep climate action at the top of the agenda, WE NEED YOU to create 30-second videos that highlight one aspect of climate change and suggest a solution.
We will use your videos to help educate the public and elected officials about the dire threat of climate change. And you could win a cash prize!
Click on the "How to Enter" tab above to learn more and to join the League in the fight against climate change.

Athletics Weekly Summary
February 4th - February 9th
Written by: Caroline Howard
My my my! Oh how time has passed us by! The winter season has flown by and playoffs are approaching us in just a few weeks! After that, Spring Sports will come around the corner in the lioness March we are due to endure, and then Summer! But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s reel it back in and check out what happened this week with our very own Monomoy Sharks!
On Friday, Mrs. Guillemette, Aoife Daly, and myself were really “Shipping up to Boston---whaooo-oo-ooo!” and enjoyed the annual “Women in Sports Day” sponsored by the MIAA. What a time this was! This event was packed with motivational speeches, uplifting stories, and the realization of just how far we, as women, have come. The keynote speaker for the event was Karissa Niehoff, the Executive Director of the National Federation of State High School Associations, who touched every person in the room with her eager presence and insight of being a woman in sport. Another guest appearance was made by the very own Amanda Pelkey, the US Women’s Hockey Gold Medalist. Amanda shared her passion for the game, as well as her journey of getting where she is today. She then proceeded to pass her gold medal around the entire hall. Boy are those things heavy! Can I ask you, how do more athletes from the US not have more neck injuries? Poor Michael Phelps probably can barely lift his head anymore! Someone send that guy some Advil! Anyways, the overall day at Faneuil Hall for the “Women in Sports Day” was one of the most rewarding experiences I have been apart of. A huge shoutout to Mrs. Guillemette for making it all happen!
On Saturday, Sharks Boys Basketball was scoring big time as they remain undefeated in the Cape and Islands League! These boys have truly put in a lot of time and effort into their sport, and showcase this every time they hit the court! Wow is there a lot of rhyming today! Back to the boys, the Sharks dominated in their game over Saint John Paul. The boys played as a cohesive unit and were giving it their all until the final buzzer. The overall score of the game was Monomoy 66, to SJP’s 42. Way to play boys!
Monday not only brought around smiles from another Vince Lombardi Trophy, but another victory from Boys Basketball! Wow was this a game to see! The boys took home the win against Martha’s Vineyard in Overtime as the score of the game was 59-55! Coach Arnold really coached and pushed these boys to dominate-and that’s just what they did… again! Great work boys!
On Wednesday, the Cape Cod Furies struck hard for a win against the DY Dolphins. Unfortunately, a few key players were out and made this game just out of reach. The Furies fell to the Dolphins 4-0, despite playing hard and giving it everything they had. Coach Weeks highlighted a few key players in the game which included: Jodi Wahtola, Nikki Awalt and Molly Mckenna! Great try girls!
Wednesday also gave us the Girls Basketball game against Sturgis East. The girls battled a tough team and showed their tenacity to grab a victory. Despite their efforts, the girls lost to Sturgis East 31-29. However, these Sharks battled through and are on to the next! You’ll get them next time girls!
On Thursday, the Monarchs sprung into action with a game against the Nantucket Whalers. These boys skated their hearts out in an effort to push these Whalers back to their island! But unfortunately that didn’t happen. The Monarchs gave it their all, but lost to the Whalers 5-0. Shake it off boys! More to come!
Wow! Was Thursday night something! Boys Basketball faced off against Sturgis East in a downright brawl! However, you can only push a Shark so far! The boys took control of the game and ended up winning 75-51! This game was also the one that qualified the boys for the state tournament! Let’s cheer these Sharks, along with all of the others, to the very end! Way to go boys!
Well, it’s that time folks. I hope everyone is still celebrating the big win for New England and is making jokes about Roger Goodell! But don’t worry, I won’t tell! And I promise you, that is the last rhyme of the day. Anyways, I’ll see you all next week for more updates on your Sharks! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!
