RU Ghost Update
September 30, 2022
Dear RU Families,
Everyoneβs safety is very important to the adults at Randolph Union; all members of this school community have a right to feel safe and a sense of belonging in this school. We want to be clear that we follow the law and the VT AOEβs guidance to keep people safe at school. The Public Accommodations Act clearly states that all people have a right to access spaces, teams, and other public places consistent with the gender with which the person identifies. In other words, school community members have the right to be in places that feel most comfortable for them. We shared this message in Advisory on Thursday, for our Advisory lesson in full, please click this link.
If you have questions about the laws that we must follow or have incidents of harassment or bullying to report, please reach out to a safe adult. Reports can be anonymous and submitted in a variety of ways, including via email to Ms. Sutton or Ms. Floyd, or through this anonymous reporting form located on the OSSD website. We are happy to meet with families and community members who have questions and would like more clarity on this matter. We have found that talking is often the best way to gain understanding from one another.
Sincerely,
Lisa & Caty

A Proposal Related to Doors
This year we moved to a one door policy. This means that from 7:55 to 2:23 all staff and students must only enter and exit through the Main Office door. While this does feel safer in many ways, it does present itself as a challenge; PE classes are estimated to lose approximately 45 minutes a week of instructional time walking around the building to access the back fields. Advisory and science classes who plan to learn outdoors lose approximately 20 minutes per class when they are doing field work outside. Below is a proposal that we believe will strike a balance between having a secure building and meeting our studentβs programming needs.
RU Doors Proposal
We will:
Strictly enforce rules related to propping of outside doors
Strictly enforce rules related to allowing others building access through doors other than the Main Entrance door during school hours
Only allow people to exit the building from the Main Entrance and the back door between RU and RTCC during the school day (and in non-emergent circumstances)
Staff will continue to be diligent about ensuring doors are secured behind them when they enter and exit the building
Staff will continue to be diligent about making the Main Office aware when they are bringing students outside, so that accurate information is always on hand about where students are when
