Slaves Freed Themselves
Or did Lincoln? NO, the slaves did!
Slaves
Fighting for FREEDOM
Slaves had a large part in their own freedom due to escaping and fighting for their own freedom.
Frederick Douglas
One of the greatest anti-slavery leaders in US history, also he put great effort into the rights of slaves. He supported equal rights because he thought everyone should be treated equally.
Abraham Lincoln
He vigorously supported the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery throughout the United States, and, in the last speech of his life, he recommended extending the vote to African Americans
Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln had insisted that he had no desire to abolish slavery where the institution already existed. Lincoln never intended to end slavery. He’s been raised to avoid it from childhood. Lincoln supported slaves to join the union army, he encouraged slaves to work for wages, and announced slaves are free in the rebellious states. Lincoln was willing to keep slavery intact if that was the best means in preserving the Union.
