FROM SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
When we reflect on this school year, the one word that comes to mind is resilience. Our children have shown us that they are incredibly resilient! They have all grown and learned in ways that we could have never imagined. While this year brought many challenges, it opened opportunities for creative pathways to learning, new ways to collaborate, and expanded our ability to connect with each other from a distance.
We look forward to many aspects of school returning to normal next year but hope to continue to build upon that resilience and creativity that came with this one.
Until then, I wish you a safe, relaxing summer break. I highly recommend having children put their devices away for awhile and use their imaginations. Enjoy a good book, draw, and play outside every day. Build a fort, climb a tree, go for a bike ride, catch fireflies (not cicadas), and simply have fun being a kid. Kids are only kids once. Many of us will be sitting in offices all summer, and one day your kids will be, too. This is why it is so important to play and be a kid.
Students will return to school on Monday, August 30. That gives them 75 days to make some great memories with their friends and families. We will be ready to teach them when they get back. Until then, we want them to have fun being kids!
Thank you all for your continued support and partnership during this memorable year!
We wish you a healthy and happy summer. See you in August!
THANK YOU..... THANK YOU.... THANK YOU
Thank you to the parents, families, and the PTA for supporting the students and staff. The kind notes and treats made the staff feel appreciated. I am so proud of the FAMILIES.
Thank you to the staff for being flexible, creative, and positive. This was a very hard school year, and the staff was like the Little Engine That Could. Each and every day they were concerned about student progress, the emotional well being of students and families, and what else they could do make things better for the children. I am so proud of the STAFF.
Thank you to Ms. LaShonne Wright, our Assistant Principal, for her unending effort. She coordinated computers, supported hybrid learning, and was always smiling and laughing with the children. I am so proud of Ms. Wright.

2021-2022 SCHOOL START AND END TIMES
With the transition to hybrid instruction during spring 2021, school start and dismissal times were shifted by 20 minutes, to reflect the concurrent in-person and virtual learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the return to a normalized, fully in-person instructional program in fall 2021, and, with consideration for feedback provided by school staff and community stakeholders, the school bell schedule will return to the original, pre-COVID times for the 2021-2022 school year.

HCPSS TECHNOLOGY DEVICE USAGE, SUMMER 2021
Access to technology devices that connect to the internet can open doors to many educational opportunities outside the traditional school setting. Students who will be returning to school for the 2021-2022 school year may keep their assigned HCPSS devices over the summer. HCPSS encourages continued learning during the summer months by using devices to access HCPSS applications like Lexia and Dreambox, and to take advantage of online opportunities, such as those offered by the Howard County Library System.
It is important that parents and guardians continue to monitor their child’s device use and remind students of the expectations around proper care and usage, and any family agreed upon limitations. While the Chromebooks have an internet content filter installed, parents/guardians may find it helpful to review their child’s web browsing history to learn more about how the device is being used.
Families who do not wish to keep their student’s assigned device over the summer may return it to their child’s school or an HCPSS Technology Support Center. Schools will distribute devices at the start of the 2021-2022 school year to students who returned their devices or who are new to the school system.
Student Technology Support
Families can use the directions for connecting a Chromebook to Wi-Fi to connect a Chromebook to their home network. Students who forget their username or password can use the Account Self Service directions to retrieve their account credentials. A variety of common self-help resources can be found on the Student Technology Resources Canvas community. If you or your child has questions on how to use access instruction or is having technical issues, please email your child’s summer programs teacher or administrator.
Families should review the HCPSS Student Mobile Technology Duties and Obligations to learn more about the school system’s policies and guidelines that govern the devices. Should an HCPSS Chromebook become broken over the summer, students/parents should bring the broken device to an HCPSS Technology Support Center. A current list of sites and hours of operation can be found online.
SUMMER READING AT THE HOWARD COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY IS BACK!

GIFTS OF GRATITUDE LAST DAY TO CONTRIBUTE 6/13 at Noon
What are Gifts of Gratitude?
In years past for winter holidays and end of the year a room parent would kindly collect donations from families for the teachers and paras, they would then buy a gift card for them. This often-meant parents would often buy gifts for all the staff they wanted to thank (from custodians to principal). With Gifts of Gratitude each staff member has an account, and each donation is added to it. The staff then choose what gift card they would like from the PTA Scripts account for that amount.
The staff member will then receive a note with their gift card.
The amount from each family is not added.
If you have any questions, please email Treasurer@lisbonpta.org
Online gifts of Gratitude https://lisbonpta.new.memberhub.store/store
Due to a glitch a teacher name may not appear on the receipt screen, no worry email the treasurer and she will send you the list of your donation and staff names.
Cash and check Gifts of Gratitude print the form from LisbonPTA.org, drop off at the PTA lockbox at LES by 6/11/2021 so they will receive by the last day of school.
Positions Needed
We need a 2nd PTACHC representative. This person will represent the Lisbon PTA at PTACHC meetings (currently virtual) alternating with the other rep. Meetings are once a month and we would ask you to attend our PTA meeting to report on the PTACHC meeting. This position is a member of the Lisbon PTA Executive Committee, and we hope would join us at our monthly meetings (currently 2nd Wednesday of the month).
We are also in need of a Nominating Committee for our PTACHC representatives, our current one to be renominated and the new one. This is a very MINIMUM committee. You will meet (virtually or in person) to discuss names (usually these names are given from current Executive Committee) you then attend a meeting (virtually June 9th at 7:00 p.m.) and “nominate” the people, we vote, and you are done. Please contact 1stVP@lisbonpta.org
