Act 2 Scene 1
By: Sara Heil and Shae Fitzpatrick
Summary
Romeo hides from his friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, to get closer to Juliet. Mercutio tries to find Romeo by describing Rosaline's appearance in hopes that Romeo will come out from jealousy. Warning Mercutio, Benvolio told him that Romeo would get angry if he continues. Benvolio and Mercutio figured that Romeo was at home, feeling depressed, and left. Within this scene, Benvolio and Mercutio are clueless about Romeo's affection toward Juliet, which represents dramatic irony since the audience knows and those characters don't.

Why did we choose this song?
We chose this song because within Act 2 Scene 1 Mercutio torments Romeo by making comments about his old "love", Rosaline. Mercutio describes Rosaline's appearance trying to make Romeo angry and/or jealous to come out. This portrays Mercutio of being a "mean" person in this scene. Some lyrics also say: "Someday, I'll be, livin' in a big ol' city, and all you're ever gonna be is mean," this reminds the audience of the fact that Romeo and Juliet's love will be so strong that they can escape as well as Romeo escaping the rude teasing of Mercutio.
