January 2, 2018
Happy New Year, KHS Family!
As we embark upon 2018, we are filled with great anticipation for the future. The month of January celebrates many leaders and leadership activities within our school and community. January 15th is the national observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May his legacy, leadership, and gallant crusade serve as an excellent example of overcoming challenges for today’s generation.
January is also, School Board Appreciation Month. If you see one of these seven leaders at one of our community or district events, please take a moment to offer gratitude. We are thankful for the countless hours they graciously donate in order to help our school district experience success. The decisions they make today, ensure a positive future for our students and community.
This spring our students' mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills will be evaluated via End of Course Exams. Our students should be confident in knowing that we are equipping them with every necessary tool they will need for success. Just as our students practice skills to be the best in competitive events, our students must prepare for academic success. Homework assignments foster necessary cognitive skill development to prepare students for college and career success.
The KHS faculty and staff is looking forward to great accomplishments in 2018. We appreciate your support, and we are committed to tackling future challenges with fervor. As partners in your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can ever be of service to you. We look forward to seeing all of our students return on Thursday, January 4, 2018, as we begin the spring semester.
Go Bobcats!

KHS Students Serve Community
For the third year in a row, Hailey Pratt has collected warm coats to give to people who are in need. Although she has worked on her own the past two years, this year she partnered with the Krum High School English Club to sponsor a coat drive at the high school. In addition, Hailey posted signs throughout Krum asking for donations and set up drop-off locations at the Krum Public Library and her house. During the collection period, which began Oct. 5, Toyota of Denton learned of her coat drive and held their own in-house drive. All coats collected at their dealership were given to Hailey. Hailey also registered with the organization One Warm Coat, a non-profit that has given away more than 5 million coats to people in need throughout the United States and 10 other countries. In total, Hailey collected 210 coats this year, as well as 2 boxes of hats, scarves, and gloves.
On Saturday, December 16th, Spanish Club members volunteered at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Denton to help distribute the collected items to people in need. While there, Spanish Club members also assembled over 100 snack bags to be handed out to the community. Krum should be extremely proud of having this young lady as part of our community. She truly embodies the concept of “leadership by example”.
