Around the School Spotlight
Below, our amazing counselor, Mrs. Allred, highlights one way we are supporting Social-Emotional learning here at Hawks View.
Currently, counseling lessons are being taught in second and third-grade classrooms, which continue for a total of six weeks.
In the second grade, we have been focusing on positive self-talk and how it can help students concentrate, stay motivated, and work hard. Please ask your second grader how they are using positive self-talk to support their personal growth!
In the third grade, our emphasis has been on the Bully Prevention Unit, where students learn to differentiate between mean behavior and actual bullying. Linked HERE is a visual aid that illustrates the differences between various interactions between students that may prompt questions like: "Is this bullying?" or "Is this someone just being mean?" Throughout these lessons, your child will acquire skills to help combat bullying.
We can’t get enough of this sunshine! During 4th grade recess, Mr. Ferguson joined a group of 4th graders playing soccer.
Emergency Drills (April 24-May 5)
All schools in our District will be participating in emergency drills April 24 - May 5. Hawks View will be participating in a Secure drill.
These drills are an essential part of our emergency preparedness, and help students and staff to practice specific protocols that would occur in an emergency situation. Practice drills such as these are also an opportunity for our administrators and staff to collaborate with the Sherwood Police Department. You may notice increased police presence if you are on/near campus during our drill, as SPD officers often participate in these drills.
During a Secure drill, students are brought inside the school building and exterior building doors are locked, while students and staff may continue to use hallways or other common areas. No one will be allowed to enter or exit the building until the drill has been completed.
For more information on District emergency response protocols and communication, please visit the SSD website here.
2023-2024 Parent Input Form for Student Placement
The Hawks View staff realizes that parents provide valuable information regarding their child’s placement. While we do not take requests for specific teachers, parent input will be carefully considered in the formation of classes for the 2023-2024 school year. Our class placement process is a collaborative one and our Placement Team takes into account a number of factors when forming classes: personalities, academic levels, learning styles, learning needs, and student compatibility. We look at each student as an individual and as a member of a diverse class. This information will be given careful consideration. Every effort will be made to provide the most appropriate educational setting for your child and to establish well-balanced classrooms.
This is not a teacher request form. Any form turned in with a specific teacher’s name request will not be considered.
Please complete this survey no later than 5 pm on Sunday, May 14th, 2023.
